HOMETOWN MISSISSIPPI, James Brieger There are two that are close: Okahola: In Lamar, County , nine miles SW of Hattiesburg and exited only as a water tank & passing siding on the New Orleans & North Eastern RR Okatibbee: Lauderdale, County, More recently known as Sterling. Once a cross road stop on the Mobile & Ohio RR; seven miles south of Meridian. Began July 5, 1848 as a Post Office known as Sageville; changed to Okatibbee - a corruption of Okatibbeaha. 1857 name changed back to Sagevill, 1858 back to Okatibbee. PO abolished in 1859. 1894 a new Post Office was secured and named Sterling. Discontinued in 1905
