Seeking information on siblings/parents/children of Matthew McCrary b. 1798 SC, and d. btw. 1854-56 in MS -- perhaps 1) Tippah Co. where the family lived, or 2)Union Co. where church records indicate the family was granted a Letter of Dismission in 1854, or 3) Charleston, Tallahatchie Co. where the family relocated, or 4) somewhere in between. Matthew married Eliza Smith/Smythe in March 1822 in St. Clair, AL. Eliza, the daughter of James Smythe and Nannie Nair Hunt, was b. 1803 in SC, and d. aft. 1870, probably in Water Valley, Yalobusha Co., MS. Per the 1850 Tippah Co., MS census, Matthew and Eliza had the following children: James C., b. 1823, AL; Jane, b. 1829, AL; Thomas R., b. 1832, AL, d. June 2, 1862, Grenada, MS; William E., b. July 21,1833, AL, d. Feb. 13, 1924, Shelby Co. TX; Samuel, b. 1835, AL; Nancy, b. 1838, AL; Harriet, b. 1840, AL; Eliza, b. 1842, MS; and Smith Samuel "S.S.", b. Apr. 14, 1845, MS, d. Mar. 30, 1920, Water Valley, Tom Green Co., TX (my g grandfather) At least three of Matthew & Eliza's boys served in the CSA. Descendents of these three brothers can provide documentation to the current generation. We know nothing about the balance of the children. Nor do we have death information on Matthew and Eliza.
