I have been able to work with a university Head Librarian to arrange for research by a Library Sciences Grad Student who is on a work-study program. The student gets paid by the hour ($8.00 in this case) and gets credit for the work done, and I pay for the costs of copying and postage. Its a win-win situation: the student gets paid and gets credit, and I get the documents I need. I received a very large envelope with copies of old (early 1880s-onward) newspaper articles about my family, and when I transcribed these, they turned out to be 12+ pages. It was worth every penny.
