    1. [MISSISSIPPI] Hi Ed, Civil War Buff
    2. Adrian & Briana Etie
    3. I know a member here at the MS list that is in search of a Needham H. Temples who died in a Civil War hospital. He is looking for his burial place. I am going to refer to my notes even though I think I have the information memorized. Here is one of his postings to this message board. He is Pvt. Needham H. ( N. H. ) Temples Co. E Shubuta Guards of Clarke County, 37th Infantry Regiment of Mississippi His records show he joined the Jasper Defenders of Jasper County Ms in 1861. In March 1862 along with his Father and Half-brothers went to the Co E Shubuat Guards. They mustered in on 8 March 1862...On April 7, went to COLUMBUS Ms. In June-July they went on to IUKA MS..The Sept-Oct Muster Card shows (Sick in Hospital, 30 Aug. 1862 ) The Sept- Oct card shows Sick in Hospital....The Nov- Dec 1862 Card shows (HE DIED IN HOSPITAL ON 20 OCT 1862 ) This is all the Information shown,,The NARA..The State Archives and Brandfoots publishers has the same information.....His WIFE.. DID NOT APPLY FOR A PENSION...She did, however, apply for his back pay and received the $65.33 in 1864. The Mississippi State Archives does not seem to have any more Information on Him...Maybe there are some books that list the Confederate DEAD that may show him. His brother ALONZO TEMPLES was Sick about the same time..Sent to Lauderdale Springs Hospitals and recovered to live to 1917. To You NICE people who want to HELP..Please Understand, This one is not easy and May Never be solved. Thanks for your Help and Patience. Thomas Temple Have you seen this one in the archives Ed? I thought I could help by looking into some records at the Clayton Library namely the following: FINAL REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONER APPOINTED TO CONTINUE WORK OF LOCATING AND MARKING GRAVES OF CONFEDERATE DEAD, 1861-1865 Cabinet: C60 Drawer: D05 Roll: ROLL #92 ID: M-0918 Format: FILM Coverage: CIVIL WAR Total: 01 Dates: 1861-1865 Box Title: REGISTER OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS, SAILORS & CITIZENS WHO DIED IN FEDERAL Due to more than one illness in my family I have yet to make the time. I wondered if you knew of these records at the Clayton Library and if you had were they useful to you? I have tried following his regiment in their battles and the date of his death. But not knowing how long he was in the hospital prior to death gives a bigger window. I believe he would have been engaged in the Battle of Corinth or Iuka. There was a college in Corinth that was turned into a temporary hospital. And the Corinth National Cemetery in the vicinity does not include N H Temples name. With records of his death from the hospital, I found it hard to believe that he would be buried in an unmarked grave. I couldn't find information that would have me believe that there was a cemetery where the College/Hospital was located. No evidence that the family received the body to be placed in his hometown area of Clark County, MS either. I started this letter just after I seen your posting, it got late and I saved it for another time. Tonight I looked through the mailing list and see your reputation proceeds you. I had no idea you would get so many inquiries. I am sorry to add to the list. Though my motives are purely unselfish. For this query is for another patient man with a long awaited unanswered question. I thank you so much for your consideration and I wish I could return the favor to you directly. However I do believe what comes around goes around and truly hope somehow your generosity is returned ten fold.
