My brick wall is FRANCIS M HOWARD Born Jackson Cty MS about 1844 He served with the Confederated States about 1861-1863 Then he went north and served with the Union. Sandra Sandra: The fighting on both sides interested me, so I did a look see. Came up with 62 Franicis Howards. The following is a list of just the Francis M. Howards that I came up with off of this list of 62... #48- 43 Ms. Infantry #49- 59 Indiana Infantry #50- 150 Indiana Infantry #51- 1 (Turney's) Tenn. Infantry #52- 12 Illinois Calvalry #53- 94 illinois Infantry 37---23 Iowa Infantry 38---4 Fla. Infantry 39---24 Texas Calvary 40---26 Ky. Infantry 41---2 Missouri Lt. Artilary 42---85 N.Y. Infantry 43---192 Ohio Infantry 44---85 Ohio Infantry 45---1 (Patton's) Miss. Infantry 46---3 Battalion Ms. Infantry 47---27 Miss. Infantry I was hoping to find a note in micellanous about someone being on both sides in the war. It was not uncommon. It was also not uncommon for some to take sides as they chose going back and forth a few times. As to why they were not shot or caught or if they were, (I am sure some were) history is not kind to us as regards the outcome for our genealogy purposes. So This is as close as I can get you, without giving RANKS, WHICH UNITS, ETC. However, you only gave what I saw here. So I used that to search by. The above should be considered leads only... SIN
