Sin, Sorry to say, I haven't been working on the Byrd line in a long time. I have only the information that you sent to me. I have been working on my Ross/Weaver/Payne lines trying to help a "cousin" get information for a book on the Ross descendants. Father's paternal side of the family. Another line is Goodson/Dove. Mother's side material of the family I am heading up a reunion to be held on Saturday, April 24, 2004 in Hineston, Rapides Parish, LA where John Edward and Cassandre Goodson Dove are buried. They were my great, great grandparents. My great grandfather and other relatives are also buried there. If you come across ay information on John David Neal and Martha Brown in MS I would appreciate it. He was born Feb. 18, 1797 in Beaufort Dist. SC and she was born Sept. 19, 1976 in SC, they were married April 21, 1824 supposedly in MS. Their first three children were born in MS before they moved to LA. Their first child was John David Jr. and Eliza Ann Seiber Neal. Their son, John Alexander Nancy "Nannie" Mallard Neal, my great grandparents, were both born in LA. Family story as I grew up was that Nannie was half Indian, she died during or shortly after the birth of my grandfather, their third child. My Aunt Geneva, the oldest of the family, who will be 97 on April 15th, is still very alert in her mind and my Uncle Cliff, the youngest of the family, who was 80 on Sept. 11th, also very alert and active both tell me that they believe she was of the Choctaw tribe. Like everyone, we didn't think to ask Grandpa, Robert Mansfield Neal, any questions about his family when he was alive. We were closer to Grandma, Ethel Palestine Dove Neal, side of the family. If anyone on the list has, or think they have, any connections to the families listed above I would appreciate hearing from you. I am also researching the Shumates of MS and would appreciate hearing from anyone on the line also. Hazel Payne LeBlanc
