Fellow Listers, I believe this is my 1st post to the MS List. I have been searching for years to locate the parents and/or siblings of my G-grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee (Leonidas?) WOOD. I have collected a lot of info. including DNA Test results that identified several other related WOOD Lines. However, we still can't make a connection. Jesse was reportedly b. 1839 in Duck Hill, Carroll/Montgomery Co., MS. Jesse would have been approx. 11 years of age in 1850. According to Jesse, both his parents were born in MS. However, although he may have believed this, it may not have been accurate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Regards, Jack Jesse Lee "Jack" WOOD,III Powell, OH (Formerly from TX) jwood2@insight.rr.com P.S. Jesse first shows up on the 1860 Census in Dyer Co., TN at age 21 years m. to Mary ???? age 20 years b. in TN. We have no idea how/when Jesse came to TN nor any info. about his family or him until he enlisted in Company I, 7th Tenn. Cavalry Reg., U. S. Army at Huntingdon, Carroll Co., TN on Dec 27, 1863. Although my g-grandfather Jesse Lee WOOD, fought for the Union, he reportedly had three brothers (names unknown) who fought for the CSA. However, since we don't have any names, CSA units or locations, there isn't enough to go on with a name like WOOD. Since Jesse was born in MS, the brothers could have enlisted in the CSA in MS or somewhere else. Below are the names of Jesse's children in the order of their birth. Perhaps they could have been named after a parent or sibling of Jesse and you may recognize a name in your WOOD line. Anna "Annie" WOOD (b. 1860 in TN) Nathaniel Clark WOOD (b. 1868 in TN) Charles Franklin WOOD (b. 1871 in TN) Eugene Vernon WOOD (b. 1875 in TN) Jesse L. Wood (b. 1878 in MO) Henry "Hal" Clay WOOD (b. 1880 in MO) Jessie Lee WOOD (Female) (b. 1890 in KS) Bessie M. WOOD (b. 1894 in OR)
Wiley McKaa (McKay)Wood was in Wilkinson CO by 1820's--He married a widow--Nancy Ford nee Hazlip in 1836--they had one son who fought with Cantrell's Raiders--he had several other sons--Does this name ring a bell?
