I wonder if someone in the Covington County, MS., area of MS. could straighten me out? Mary Pickering, daughter of John Benjamin Pickering and Rachel Mahala Speed, had two husbands: (1) James Earl Harrell, Sr., and (2) Eugene F. "Gus" Guthrie. It is my underestanding that James Earl Harrell, Sr. and wife, Mary Pickering Harrell, had two children: (1) Clara Ruth Harrell (married Albeert Ab B. Jones, my great uncle) and (2) Earl John Harrell who married Gracie F. Quates. I always thought that the father of Clara Ruth Harrell was the son of Thomas Jefferson Harrell and Hester Mixon Harrell, and, therefore Clara Ruth was an aunt to my grandmother, Martha Missouri Harrell Speed (married Benjamin Franklin "Bee" Speed). In my research, I've never been able to identify a James Earl Harrell, Sr., although everyone who has information shows that Mary Pickering married James Earl Harrell, Sr. My question is, who is he? Who were his parents? Where is he buried and what are his dates? I know that Clara Ruth Harrell was closely related to my mother, Lavinia Speed Knight. Here are the children of Thomas Jefferson Harrell, Sr., and Hester Mixon Harrell, so far as I know: Martha Missouri Harrell b 08/10/1864 d 09/14/1933 Joseph W. Harrell b 10/05/1868 d 04/01/1896 (who did he marry?) Viola B. Harrell b 1869 Thomas Jefferson Harrell, Jr. b 10/27/1872 - 01/03/1929 - never married Unnamed daughter B&D 04/06/1875 If you can help me untangle this line, I would be most grateful.
