    3. Becky, This may or may not help but BLM shows two Payne's with land grants in Rankin County in your general time frame. James Payne, 16 grants ranging from 1837 to 1850 Samuel J Payne, 3 grants,,,all 3 1859 FWIW,,,a Charles West Payne 1919.
