HOMETOWN MISSISSIPPI, James Brieger There are two that are close: Okahola: In Lamar, County , nine miles SW of Hattiesburg and exited only as a water tank & passing siding on the New Orleans & North Eastern RR Okatibbee: Lauderdale, County, More recently known as Sterling. Once a cross road stop on the Mobile & Ohio RR; seven miles south of Meridian. Began July 5, 1848 as a Post Office known as Sageville; changed to Okatibbee - a corruption of Okatibbeaha. 1857 name changed back to Sagevill, 1858 back to Okatibbee. PO abolished in 1859. 1894 a new Post Office was secured and named Sterling. Discontinued in 1905

I have a invitation to the wedding of Helen B. Sinclair (daughter of Mr. & Mrs. W. D. Sinclair) to Reb. H. J. Cumpsten. Monday afternoon, October 7th, at three o'clock. Presbyterian Church, McComb City, Miss. 1895. I can not find them in my tree but would be happy to send to any family member. Perhaps we could find a connection. Jan Knowlton

Hiram Dawson died in 1905 and Mary Jane (Freeman) Byrd could have possible married again and her married name would not be known. The boy was thought to have been born in MO. He was left by his mother in a train station in nw TN in Dec 1925 or Jan 1926 when his mother was supposedly returning to the University of Mississippi, perhaps from St Louis. The 1920 Census information for this male states he was b in MO and that both his parents were born in Mississippi. We believe that the adoptive parents gave the info that they thought was true for his birth parents. The infant boy was adopted and raised by a very loving older couple that had no children. He died when he was about 32. His only daughter is now hoping that there might be someone out there that knows of this story and could possibly help her identify her father's family. She realizes that her grandmother would now be 98 -104 years old and unlikely to be still living. Most grateful for any help. JORDAN: I am desparately seeking my great grandfather ............JORDAN who was married to Maggie Belle Lee ca 1888. My grandmother, Annie Belle Jordan, was born Oct 13, 1889. She was always told in North Little Rock, but Maggie's family came from Hinds CO MS to Drew CO MS in 1870. There were many Jordan's around her that she could have married. The problem is that due to family history the story goes that......Possibly, John Jordan, was to have died in a horse back riding accident so someone may just have him as a son, but not with his wife and child. There has to be someone who knows something for the book A History of Drew Co Ar is full of many, many people that are kin down to people that are living now in many parts of AR today. I would appreciate any help that I can get. My grandmother on her mother's side were McManus,Bedwell, Nicholson, Ferguson, Wolfe, etc. Her mother's sister Dora Lee McManus and daughters? came to visit my grandmother in the late 60 early 70's ??? I think they could have lived in El Paso for my grandmother went to visit them after they came. Thank you to all of you who responded to my question. I was getting the information by telephone and it never occurred to me to ask for the spelling. Or it may be that someone filled out the marriage application for the groom and that person did not know how to spell it. Linda
Yes, you are right....In my haste, I forgot to change the spelling....... Cathryn
