    3. Back track and find her in her parents home. You might find a different father or spelling of his name, you might even find she was born in a different state. The person who gave the information on the death certificate could have made a mistake. On my great grandmother's large headstone was written her full name which is great for verifying her maiden name. What has made it impossible for researcher before me to locate her parents and siblings was the incorrect information. The birth date was Dec. 20, 1861, the place was written as Mey, Levair Co., MO, died May 23, 1917. age 56 yrs. 6 mos. 3 days. If you use the 56 yrs. 6 mos and 3 days, she would have been born Nov., 20. 1960. I posted inquiries on the MO state list on Rootsweb. I was told there was never a Levair Co. and couldn't locate a Mey (town/township/community). Some very nice ladies on the list found her listed in the 1860 census, P.O. Lecon, Miller township, Maries Co., MO. age 5/12. That would make her born Nov. 20, 1860, which would have been after the census so we know the year is wrong and probably the month. Using the census, June 16, 1860, her age 5/12, Dec.1859 or Jan. 1860 would have been her birth month and year. If we go ahead and use the 20th of the month, then she would not have had her birthday yet, which would give her the date of birth as Dec. 20, 1859. I could go on and give you more discretions in the census records, ie number of children born 8, 6 living, in the 1910 census, the last one listed as James, age 9 years. My grandmother, her sisters and brothers did not remember anything about a brother or cousin, James; my grandmother and her older sister were married before 1910. 2 sisters and 2 known brothers were living at home, that would make the 6 living children, okay now throw in James, that would make 7 living. All of this is enough to make you want to pull your hair out. My best wishes to you in your endeavors. 3. Happy New Years Everyone: Hopefully some walls will come tumbling down in 2005. I have created a blog for genealogy. It is open to comments and suggestions and topics. You may sign your name or nom de plume. You may link it to your webpage if you wish. Just be nice is only rule. The URL is: http://frontporchrockernews.blogspot.com Visit and post. I can create a Langford and Lankford name section for anyone who would like to upload their gedcoms and other family information. Will create section for other names of interest to me and anyone else. Hampton, Creel, Wilkinson, Roberts, McInnis, McCann, many of the Southside families of Virginia, Newsome, Dearman, Brigman, Evans, Dunn, Clark(e), Hawkins, Walker, Rostan, Sneed/Snead. Tonight will be posting some documented names of Indian Traders found in deeds. Have found more Langford/Lankford material in abstracted newspapers and hopefully our library may have these newspapers in their collection so that I can go and view the complete articles. Have been attempting to find material on the Railroads in Texas which were built for the cattle trade in Fort Worth. Cattle runs to Kansas became old hat when Fort Worth decided to "do it themselves". Hopefully non-genie types who have a passion for history or a subject related to history such as gun smithing, saloon keeping, soap making, etc., will discover the page and post some good stuff for us. Well, it is time to start posting to the Front Porch Rocker News. Come on and visit...pull up a rocker and lets talk or just view the passing dogs with their folks. 3. If you have not already done so, suggest you post to the RSL Database on Rootsweb.com(go to the home-page and follow the links) Next, you should look on the Surname (both Chasey & Whitten) message boards and post there; It would be wise to look thru the messages that are there, in case someone else has posted already. Then, go to the GenWeb County Boards where they lived and do the same thing...if there is a mailing list for that County, you should join and post queries. That should get you started...and someone will answer...eventually... >From: "Dominique Dailey" <dailey04@juno.com> >Reply-To: MISSISSIPPI-L@rootsweb.com >To: MISSISSIPPI-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [MISSISSIPPI] ancestor quest >Date: Sun, 26 Dec 2004 19:28:57 GMT > > >I am in a desperate search of Chasey and Whiten ancestors. 3. I appreciate the suggestions. I am very new to all this. I am searching for a Jim Chasey and Evelyn Whiten to be exact, around 1890-1900. I am uncertain if they were ever marred to each other but they did have children together, Dan Thomas Chasey born in Hamburg, MS like his mother Evelyn, on 9/21/1928. He died 9/26/2002 in Seattle, WA. I do not know anything about Evelyn unfortunately. Jim was born in Railway, MS on 6/3/1892 and died 5/1976 in Roxie. They also had another son James Chasey who was born 2/16/1935 and died also in Roxie on 2/5/2003. Thank you once again for the suggestions, Sincerly, Dominique ________________________________________________________________ Juno Gift Certificates Give the gift of Internet access this holiday season. http://www.juno.com/give

    1. Re: [MISSISSIPPI] ancestor quest
    2. The first thing you should do is put the ancestor's surname in the subject line. That way viewers will know what family you are searching for. Simply putting "ancestor quest" is too vague, and most people will not even bother to read your email query. If you have a time frame that would be helpful, such as "Chasey and Whiten, 1850-1910." There are Whittens in Tallahatchie County, MS. Good luck.
