    1. Fw: Texas Cemeteries Directory
    2. Ken Hollingsworth
    3. FYI ------ From: Donna Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2001 6:47 PM Subject: Texas Cemeteries Directory Hello, Many hours have been spent recently compiling a new "Texas Cemeteries Directory" which is hoped to benefit every Genealogy Researcher and at the same time encourage the preservation of our Cemeteries. The new Directory shows over 21,000 TX cemeteries found on line with information about where each one was found in an easy to use format. The directory includes information about those cemeteries that have been inventoried and where to find them. So far those who have visited this new Directory have made such comments as "What a neat idea."; "You've really hit on something here." & "Thanks for creating this site". In addition our web site hosts the list of cemeteries which have reached the protected status of "Historic Texas Cemetery" designation, whose program was developed by "The Texas Historical Commission". We also have a special page where those who have labored to write books about our TX cemeteries can announce the availability of those books, sell the books, buy a book, or trade them. Most well organized cemetery inventory projects sell the books to fund the project. We all know how expensive it is to work in our cemeteries and believe this is a vital part of encouraging their preservation. There is lots more to see, so come check us out, and while you're there leave a message about a neglected TX cemetery in our guest book. These posts are followed up on by the folks at "Save Texas Cemeteries" and the folks who manage the "Historic Texas Cemetery" designation program. With your participation it is our hope to encourage the location, inventory and preservation of our Historic Texas Cemeteries. Come see what's new for Texas. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~txcemeteries/ We look forward to your visit, donna list and web admin Historic Texas Cemeteries

    1. GIBSON Family Research
    2. Janice Bivens
    3. I am also researching the GIBSON Family. My third great-grandfather was John P. (some say the middle initial stood for "Pate", some say "Pittman"...) Gibson. His wife was Margaret J. Williams Gibson. John Gibson was born approx. 1799 in SC and moved to MS after 1820. Margaret J(ane) Williams Gibson was b. approx. 1820 and married John in 1843 in Monroe Co., MS. Joseph Gibson of Aberdeen (Monroe Co.) was a witness at the ceremony. Joseph Gibson left records of land ownership in Monroe Co., but I am unable to determine what relation John was to Joseph. Also, I have located John and Margaret Gibson and their family on 1860 and 1870 U.S. Census Records....1860 in Calhoun Co., near Cherry Hill and 1870 in Calhoun Co. (now Carroll Co.) near Duck Hill. John and Margaret had several children: Francis, Asberry, Sarah, Mary, Martha, Rebecca, and Malverda (aka Melverda, Melvertie). Melvertie (called "Vertie" ) was my great-great-grandmother. She had two children by "Will" or "Wilds" Merriweather, who according to family legend, left Melvertie with the two children when they were young. One of those children, Margaret Sue Merriweather, was my great-grandmother, and I knew her in my lifetime. Melvertie later remarried Newell Autry Felts in Tallahatchie Co. about 1890. I have run into many "dead ends" or "brick walls" when searching for the Merriweather, Gibson, and Williams families in the counties mentioned above. Maybe Franklin County has some information. Thanks. Janice Branch Bivens Bedford, TX > > > Henry Gibson and his sisters Susan Gibson and Georgia Gibson owned land > in Franklin County before 1900. The plot was bought by Mr. Louis McGehee > in 1963. I'm looking for the names of Henry Gibson's parents or any other > information about my great-grandfather. > > > >
