On June 14, 1848, James F. Sybert was born in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. The son of Henry R. Sybert, mothers name unknown. In the 1860 census of Morgan County, Alabama, James is found residing with his grandmother Rebecca Sybert. In a letter written by his granddaughter in 1984, she says that Sol and Bob Sybert, brothers of Henry, went to Mississippi to bring the boy back to be raised by Rebecca and her daughters. There is no reason given for this event. There also, is no information on the mothers name, date of marriage OR the date of death for either parent. We presume they died and the child was brought to the care of his grandmother. The story doesn't end there. Henry had another brother, John W. Sybert. John had a daughter, Arphelia, also born in Yalobusha County. The circumstance here are nearly identical. The mother's name is unknown, as is the marriage date, and the child's birthdate. John W. Sybert died, and there is no info on the date of death or place of burial. We assume that both brothers died in Yalobusha County, since they were not brought home for burial with the rest of the family. I have searched the internet and have found only one marriage under the name Sybert. That of Permelia in the 1850's. She married twice, once to a Young but I can't remember the other name. Both marriages were in, you guessed it, Yalobusha County. Both children were listed in estate papers of there grandfather Federick Sybert in 1867. Both were under age, but there was neither the mothers names or guardians listed for them. By the way the estate is worded, it is clear that the fathers were not alive. Could anyone help to shine some light on this mystery? These two are the last of the Sybert line that we have not been able to account for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Susan K.
