Hi Listers, We found an old letter written by my great-aunt, Ella Harmon Breber, that talked of the following folks: Frank Harmon Lula Harmon John Harmon All three were from MS and died of pneumonia. There is some connection with those folks and my Henry Harmon line. She was writing to someone else trying to find out whom they were. If you recognize those names, please let me know. 1. Re: [MISSISSIPPI] Guardianship
    2. I found guardianship records after the December 1838 death of Aloysius Michael Keegan in Monticello, Lawrence Co., MS. His widow Martha Anderson Crutchfield Keegan (she was named Anderson because of ancestors, she was young and had never married). The records continued until 1854 (I obtained those records from MS archives microfilm) having to have the records kept . There was a will and she was appointed executor then a man was appointed to assist with the two sons needs. They had 5 children , 2 soon married and my g-gmother married in July 1844. Gladys

    1. Re: [MISSISSIPPI] Guardianship
    2. Gerald Gieger
    3. There are two kinds of Guardianship for Minors...Guardian of the Person; and Guardian of the Estate: Sometimes they are made in the same Probate Order... The surviving Blood Parent does not need to obtain Guardianship of the person of their minor child; however; the Estate is a different matter...sometimes the deceased parent has no Estate to convey, or the property is community, or there was a Will...In these cases, Guardianship of the Estate of Minors should not be necessary... If there is a substantial Estate and one parent dies in testate (without a Will) the Probate Court may require the surviving Parent to obtain Guardianship of the Minor's Estate, and post bond, which requires that an annual accounting be made... Without this Order, Real property cannot be disposed of, or funds dispersed. It pays to have a WILL, especially when Minors are involved... >From: jigtweet@webtv.net (Mary Williams) >To: MISSISSIPPI-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [MISSISSIPPI] Guardianship >Date: Wed, 30 May 2001 11:44:04 -0400 (EDT) > >The same thing happened in my family. 3. The same thing happened in my family. However, in my case the first father died and the mother remarried. She was made guardian of the children from the second marriage only and made reports to the court, put up a bond, etc. I think it was to make sure none of the children from the first marriage got any of the second husband's money. However, that backfired, as the second husband never fared as well as the first. Also, the grandmother got into the act and stated in her will that unless all of these monies for guardianship were paid back to her by these children from the second marriage, they inherited nothing from her. This occurred in Monroe County, Mississippi. Personally, I can't imagine having to be made guardian of my own children, but those were different times (circa 1887, in my case). 1. [MISSISSIPPI] Guardianship
    2. Ann Downing
    3. When my gggrandfather died in Pontotoc County, MS, in the early 1850's, several minor grandchildren were to receive proceeds from the sale of his property. Their father was already deceased as well. I found court papers where their mother was declared their guardian about the time of the settlement and several years after their father had died. She and her brother posted $500 bond. There was at least one annual report that she made to the court noting that she had received no monies or property from their estate. Why would a guardianship be required? I did not find such guardianship for the other set of minor grandchildren, children of a different deceased father. Do you think there was some issue that required the guardianship in one case? Ann Ann H. Downing Downing Consulting, Inc. (770) 394-0916

    3. Several months ago Paint Shop Pro was installed on my computer. I happily scanned away placing photos in My Pictures and well as the ones I was receiving by e mail. Now for some unknown reason I find that they are still saving to My pictures as instructed but they are also showing up on Display Properties as options for the Desk top. I had some one come by after I had worked with it trying to change it to no avail. All he did was just create a new folder to reroute it to. He didn't change any thing as far as the association. I would like to know if any one else has encountered this and is this an automatic feature of Me that I over looked? I was so used to Windows98 SE that I may have over looked this all the time but I didn't think so. I know this is not really genealogy but I need help.

    1. [MISSISSIPPI] Electronic Census Spreadsheets
    2. Gary Minder
    3. I have a collection of 29 electronic census spreadsheets that I am happy to share with anyone who wants to download a free copy. The spreadsheets will allow you to electronically organize and archive your extracted census records. The collection includes the federal census (1790-1920), special schedules including slave and veterans, and spreadsheets for the state censuses of Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, New York and Wisconsin. I also have spreadsheets for Canada, England, Ireland, and Scotland. I created them with MS Excel 97 and they require Excel 97 or 2000 to use them. I have a website at http://www.censustools.com where you can see screenshots of all of the spreadsheets, read about them in more detail, and of course download whatever you need. Gary Happiness is helping a stranger find their roots. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 3. Gail, I live right down the road from Red Banks, I would advise writing to the Hall of Records for Marshall County, MS. It might be they can help you. The town of Red Banks consists of a couple of feed stores, a steak house (great steaks), a catfish house, truck stop and a church. Its a neat little town. --- Gail Honeycutt <gailhon@earthlink.net> wrote: > I am new to this list and have two questions. 3. I am new to this list and have two questions. First, I have seen somewhere that there were many Mississippi State Census taken during the 1800's. Is it possible to get a look-up for those and if it is not possible, where could I search them myself? Do I have to go to the MS State Archives? Also, if I need county records for Red Banks, MS during the mid 1800's where would I go to get those? Could I write to the county courthouse and request them or should I just send all requests to the State Archives? Also, is the State Archives online? I live in NC and am not as familiar as I should be with MS counties. Thanks! Gail Flowe Honeycutt Researching: FLOUGH / FLOW / FLOWE
