There will be a reunion for the descendants of John Johnson and wife Eliza Hensley Johnson at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall on Saturday, June 23rd. in Clinton, Tennessee Rev. John Johnson, son of John and Eliza, was the first pastor at Farmers Grove in 1897. Related family names include Farmer, Henderson, Clardy, and many others. For more information you may contact me at <mamawcarolyn@ntown.com>. Last year's reunion was a great success. There many family items displayed, including a Civil War sword, a quilt made by Eliza herself, minutes of the first Johnson Reunions in the 20's and 30's, and lots of photos. All friends and relatives are welcome. Carolyn Johnson mamawcarolyn@ntown.com
I need a marriage lookup Stephen Smith b 1801-1810 NC Nancy ?? b 1813-1815 AL Their first born (that I know of) was born in 1829. I've looked in about every database so I think after 15 years with no luck, I'll ask for help. HELP
I called my husband's cousin today and she is the Chancery Clerk in Dist. 2 of Bolivar Co. The one I mailed the request to was District 1. I asked her could I file a complaint with the Judge or commissioners. She said I would have to file with Circuit Clerk and she wouldn't do any thing. The fact of the matter is that this Circuit Clerk (not my husband's cousin) is under investigation for miss handling money. So that is a dead end. The clerk did not tell me that the charge is $10.00 for a look up. If they don't find it they still keep the $10.00. So they can sit there filing their nails all day long and not look up a thing and rake in the ten dollars duping a lot of people and causing them to search far and wide for years and it there in the court house all along. I am really disturbed with this. Even though the Clerk told me the copies were 50 cents she did not tell me that for her to search it would be an additional $10.00. Who wants to pay that when you are only going to get beat out of it? What can we do to avoid this practice?
I found a female age 16 on the 1860 census named Frances Larkin, listed as blind. Does anyone know if there is any information available for the residents? appreciate any help. Gladys
I just posted my information on my great grand mother to this site. This is a very good site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~orphanshome/
I have just been given some information about John Keegan b.c. 1825 Monticello, Law. Co., MS. He was said to be just at the heighth of his career when he was killed in the Courthouse of Monticello. I could not get the date as this person wants to sell his book. I would appreciate any help if there is a record of Lawyers with him listed or anything. This person also said the Keegan family was buried at a lot adjoining Dr. Wilson. The father of John Keegan was Aloysius Michael Keegan d. 1838 and was a Lawyer, Senator, Judge, Represenative. In the book " Lincoln Co., MS, It's People by Yvonne McGlothlin, a newspaper Article in 1900 gave an update of the descendants of A. M. Keegan. In the article they stated John had died sometime previous to that article. I would be greatful for any help. Gladys
I want to research some social history regarding my father growing up in rural Jones Co., MS, in the 1920s and early '30s. Can anyone suggest some good books regarding life on a Mississippi farm during that period? Thanks for your consideration. While I agree that it not the job of acting as a researcher for the public, it is the duty of the clerks in archives to furnish copies of materials requested. When writing for documents we try to supply all the information needed to find it (except book and page number). We say please and thank you in our letters, and enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelop. I had the same problem with my grandmother's death certificate in New Orleans. I finally obtained her obituary and sent that to the clerk who then was able to find the death certificate but she wanted to charge me a second time. I had given her the exact date, name, etc. and the obit from the funeral home files reinforced my request. I finally received the certificate and after speaking with the supervisor during a long distant phone call it was decided that I indeed did not owe them more money. People besides genealogists request these documents also. They are public property ( taxpayer supported), and if a clerk wants to be lazy and not look for the documents there is no excuse. Lawyers, insurance companies, banks need documents all the time for their case files. Wayne, you are just too kind and tolerant. Tree Mother ----- Original Message ----- From: Wayne E. Bobbye, I understand your frustration . . . I've been there. The truth is, however, the clerks in County Court Houses and other records repositories are not paid to do research or make copies for people. It's just not a part of their very full job. The wonder is that so many of them are willing to take time out from their real job to do a favor for a family historian. That usually occurs when they are approached with an understanding - not demanding - attitude and a polite request for assistance.
