Can anyone in Mississippi help me? I am new to this list. I have been trying to track down the first wife of Chester Harvey (Sheff) Sheffield, my father. Her name was Margaret F. Sheffield. I don't know if the "F" was a maiden name or a middle name. She was a registered nurse. She may have worked at a Veteran's Hospital, but I am not sure of that. She and my father were married sometime before 1932 and divorced by 1942. She was probably born between 1895 and 1910 since Daddy was born in 1899. Daddy worked most of his life for the Norfolk and Western Railway. The two or them were living in Knoxville together as per the city directories from 1931 to 1939. I don't know whether she got the RN in Knoxville while they were married or before that. I have been told that she was from Mississippi. Thank you, Sheila

Is there a history of Oakland, Ms, Yalobusha County, that might include the stores and merchants in 1860? I'm at a dead end in my search for information on my ggrandfather, J. M. Ellis. He was a 47-year-old bachelor merchant in Oakland on the 1860 Federal Census. Who were his parents? Where was he born? Did he have other family in Yalobusha County? When and where did he marry Sarah Ann Smith? They were parents of my grandmother, Lucy Ann Ellis, born 19 November 1862 in Yalobusha County. J. M. Ellis was killed in battle while serving in Co. G, 2nd Miss Calvary, CSA. All clues appreciated. Martha.... martha@nuc.net

I am researching the surname WEST primarily from South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi, but more than likely have links to WEST families in other states as well. I have been doing census research on these names and wanted to share with the List. It would be neat if everyone who has census information for any year, any state and county could post so that all of us researchers could maintain a database of the WEST surname for possible links or matches. Here is various census information that I have and would like to share. I may have overlooked some families, as it appeared on the film I was looking that the census sheets were out of order, so if you know of a WEST family that was in Tippah Co. in 1860 that is not listed on here, please do not hesitate to correct me, or if I have a spelling incorrect. Some of these names were hard to read. I hope this data helps someone who does not have access to census information. 1860 Tippah County, Mississippi Dwelling Family Names Age Place of Birth 478 474 West, Loueca 25 NC Sarah E. 28 SC Luiza C? 6 MS Sirus A. 3 MS James H. 3 MS Martha E. 1 MS Donaldson, Eliz. ? Does anyone happen to know what time period there was a Dr. Wilson in Monticello, Lawrence Co., MS? This has to do with records stating "Members of the Keegan family are buried in a lot adjoining the home of Dr. Wilson at Monticello." written by Mary L. Prestridge, Monticello, Miss.
