    3. Gladys, they probably WOULD do an inter-library loan - that is, if they do that sort of thing at all. I live in New Hampshire now (although originally from Mississippi) and I get books on inter-library loan from Mississippi, Alabama and all over the place. It's certainly worth a try, and you could probably do it by telephone to your library, requesting the book (giving the title and the author) and requesting to be notified when it comes in. It's usually only a couple of dollars, and you get to keep it usually about two to three weeks. At least, that's been my experience. 3. Harold, I really appreciate your efforts. I'm aware at least of Dawn Driskell. We are cousins - not through our respective Johnson lines - but through our Clark lines. Dawn's mother, Johnnie Ruth (Clark) Smith, was my 3rd or 4th cousin. I haven't figured it out just yet. I believe Johnnie Ruth's great grandfather and my great grandfather were brothers. I have been in touch with Dawn in the past and she did have some information on my Johnson's, but nothing I didn't already have, unfortunately Also, I wanted to ask you - do you know of a Janell (Johnson) Osborn who lives in Decatur (which I believe is in Newton Co., - am I right?). I believe her husband is a Kenneth Osborn. Don't know if I'm spelling the "Osborn" correctly. Janell and I are first cousins. Her father and my father were brothers (my father being the oldest in the family, and her father being the youngest.) They lived in the Coldwater Community out from Philadelphia, MS, and very close to the Fairgrounds. Janell used to be a home economics teacher. She is a year older than I. Just curious. I may have already been in touch with A. T. Johnson, if the actual name is Alewin Johnson or something like that. Thanks again, Harold. Sue (Johnson) Howard P.S. I also have a "Winfield" type cousin who lives in Union, MS - Ruth Mills. Her husband is Robert Mills. So there's a few names I have in Neshoba and Newton - Johnson, Clark, Winfield, and Sherard. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harold Graham" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 9:15 PM Subject: Re: [MISSISSIPPI] (no subject) > Sue, I want to put you in contact with A. 3. Yes they do loans all over the country. All you do is go to the library and ask for whatever book you need. They would if possible like the author of it and sometimes they can look that up for you. I have had them brought into where I live alot. Where do you live in Texas? Cindy I live in Texas also. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 8:48 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MISSISSIPPI] Re:Newton County Watts Howard, I appreciate the information, don't imagine they would do an inter-library loan as I live in Texas. 2. Almost every library in Texas participates in Inter Library Loan. Most past the shipping cost ($5-6) along to the customer.

    3. Seeking information on siblings/parents/children of Matthew McCrary b. 1798 SC, and d. btw. 1854-56 in MS -- perhaps 1) Tippah Co. where the family lived, or 2)Union Co. where church records indicate the family was granted a Letter of Dismission in 1854, or 3) Charleston, Tallahatchie Co. where the family relocated, or 4) somewhere in between. Matthew married Eliza Smith/Smythe in March 1822 in St. Clair, AL. Eliza, the daughter of James Smythe and Nannie Nair Hunt, was b. 1803 in SC, and d. aft. 1870, probably in Water Valley, Yalobusha Co., MS. Per the 1850 Tippah Co., MS census, Matthew and Eliza had the following children: James C., b. 1823, AL; Jane, b. 1829, AL; Thomas R., b. 1832, AL, d. June 2, 1862, Grenada, MS; William E., b. July 21,1833, AL, d. Feb. 13, 1924, Shelby Co. TX; Samuel, b. 1835, AL; Nancy, b. 1838, AL; Harriet, b. 1840, AL; Eliza, b. 1842, MS; and Smith Samuel "S.S.", b. Apr. 14, 1845, MS, d. Mar. 30, 1920, Water Valley, Tom Green Co., TX (my g grandfather) At least three of Matthew & Eliza's boys served in the CSA. Descendents of these three brothers can provide documentation to the current generation. We know nothing about the balance of the children. Nor do we have death information on Matthew and Eliza. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Jeri McCrary Ziglar

    3. Ona, thanks to you also for trying to help me find my great grandfather's brother, Benjamin Johnson. I really have no idea which Benjamin Johnson is the right one, but I did find the one you listed below on the Family History Center 1880 census - online. I thought that he was a good possibility because he was born in Alabama, was the right age, and also listed NC and TN as birthplaces of his parents - although they were mixed up, because his father was born in Tennessee and his mother, in North Carolina. Their names, by the way, were Randolph Johnson (born about 1800 in MAYBE Wilson Co., TN) and Elizabeth Ashby (born about 1800 in North Carolina). But this particular Benjamin Johnson definitely matched up the best. I just have no proof of his relationship to my g grandfather, and I don't know what happened to him on the next census, of course, since most of the 1890 censuses were destroyed by fire, I understand. Don't even know if he remained in Oktibbeha Co. or not. Well, I will just have to keep looking. Oh, and the Benjamin Johnson in Newton Co. that you listed, also matched up pretty well. Right age, right birthplace - Alabama. What about his parents' birthplace? Did it tell that? 1. Re: [MISSISSIPPI] Re:Newton County Watts
    2. Harold, Thanks so much for the reply on the Watts family. I did not know of a book published on the Chapman family. Does it mention this child that I am not sure of her mother? Thanks for forwarding it on to Myrtis Craft, is she a Chapman researcher by chance? I have found a lot of information on my Mississippi family, but other I need so bad and will appreciate any information. It is all so interesting to learn the trails you can travel. Thanks again, Gladys
