Can someone tell me what communities would have been included in the 1880 Prentiss Co., Census, District 5? My James M. Sanders family is found in the 1860 Tishomingo Co. Census, Jacinto Post Office (page 240) and I have not been able to locate them in the 1870 MS Census. Their youngest child, shown in the 1880 Fannin Co., TX Census, was born abt. 1872, in MS. The 1870 county boundary changes seem to have placed Jacinto into Prentiss Co. Any information would be helpful. Thank you, Lola (Sanders) Ball [email protected]

I was just puzzled after looking at all of the Census I didnt find Lizzie Elliott in Monroe County MS But when I did, Lizzie was married to Rance Sanders and they lived in Nettleton, Monroe County,MS. SHe was in her 30's then and I wondered where she went in her 20's in MS. I am know she was not recorded living with her father and stepma/aunt, Frank and Rachel Elliott. Nor could I find her with her Word family, but she lived somewhere in her 20's. If someone could give me a tip on this mystery. Thanks! If you see her in MS somewhere in her 20's Email me! Karen, I found the Frank Elliot family on the 1900 census. Can you handle a 150 KB JPG file ? The wife is Rachael they have been married 19 years.. so it looks like Comfort was dead not long after the 1880 census. Their mother, Rose is in the Frank Elliot household in 1900. Monroe county, MS. Karen, When did she die? You know there are no census then until 1900, would she be living then? Gladys
I have found a family first in Leland, Washington Co , MS in 1920 then in Greenwood/Leflore Co., MS in 1930 a farmer. I believe the wife is the daughter of my grandfather's brother. She is Erma Goodwin and was living in 1910 in Washington Co. with her mother age 18 and a teacher. Her mother was running a hotel in Glen Allen Village there. In the 1920 census it looks like Erma G. age 27 and in 1930 she was 37. 1930 census Leflore Co. all are white Simmons, Flint W. age 47 cotton farmer b. Ms wife, Emma/Erma age 37 b. MS son William age 17 b. MS daut. Blanch age 11 b. MS I would appreciate hearing if anyone knows of this family. Gladys

Below is a newspaper "tid bit" I came across while at the Courthouse in Grove Hill, Alabama during the holidays. Larry E. Caver, Jr. The Clarke County (Ala.) Democrat, June 1, 1871: Col. Giles M. HILLYER, Past Grand Master of Masons of Sovereign Grand Inspector General of the Thirty-third degree for the State of Mississippi, died at Vicksburg on the evening of the 22nd ultimo.
Hello! I would like to have a Census lookup for an African American: Mrs. Comfort Elliott, she was a WORD by birth, I have found her in the 1880 MS Census. She is listed with her husband, Frank Elliott. They are the parents to my great grandma, Lizzie (Elizabeth) Elliott- Sanders. All are from MS. I found Comfort in Monroe County, MS she is 22. My Lizzie was born in 1883, I am looking to see if there are any more recordings of Comfort before she died, her hubby married Comfort's sister Rachel. I am looking to see who might have raised Comfort's daughter Lizzie. She is not recorded with her dad and stepma/aunt, Frank and Rachel Elliott. She could have been raised by family on either side, I could use some extra tips here. Thanks! Karen Rogers Good Things are Always Happening!

Thanks for your reply, Harold. Please give my regards to Ruth and Robert. I did actually meet them once on a trip to Mississippi several years ago. Several weeks/months ago, someone asked whether the Georgia Salzburger Society had a Website... I have been seeking information on a cousin just found in 1910 census of Washington County, MS. She was Erma Goodwin age 18 , her father had died when she was very young. She was living with her mother who had remarried to a Rogan and she was owner or manager of a hotel in Glen Allen Village. I did not find the mother in 1920, Erma had probably married. Would anyone have any marriages available after 1910?? I would appreciate any help. Gladys Goodwin Parker
My niece nee WINFIELD. Her father, John Theodore WINFIELD, was born in NY, died in CA. Ted was stationed at Camp Shelby during WWII. Ted's dad, Robert WINFIELD, was born in MS; his mother born NY [I believe]. That's about all the info I have on Ted. Could he possibly be part of your family?? -----Original Message----- From: suehoward [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2004 9:36 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MISSISSIPPI] (no subject) Harold, I really appreciate your efforts. I'm aware at least of Dawn Driskell. We are cousins - not through our respective Johnson lines - but through our Clark lines. Dawn's mother, Johnnie Ruth (Clark) Smith, was my 3rd or 4th cousin. I haven't figured it out just yet. I believe Johnnie Ruth's great grandfather and my great grandfather were brothers. I have been in touch with Dawn in the past and she did have some information on my Johnson's, but nothing I didn't already have, unfortunately Also, I wanted to ask you - do you know of a Janell (Johnson) Osborn who lives in Decatur (which I believe is in Newton Co., - am I right?). I believe her husband is a Kenneth Osborn. Don't know if I'm spelling the "Osborn" correctly. Janell and I are first cousins. Her father and my father were brothers (my father being the oldest in the family, and her father being the youngest.) They lived in the Coldwater Community out from Philadelphia, MS, and very close to the Fairgrounds. Janell used to be a home economics teacher. She is a year older than I. Just curious. I may have already been in touch with A. T. Johnson, if the actual name is Alewin Johnson or something like that. Thanks again, Harold. Sue (Johnson) Howard P.S. I also have a "Winfield" type cousin who lives in Union, MS - Ruth Mills. Her husband is Robert Mills. So there's a few names I have in Neshoba and Newton - Johnson, Clark, Winfield, and Sherard. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harold Graham" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 9:15 PM Subject: Re: [MISSISSIPPI] (no subject) > Sue, I want to put you in contact with A. I appreciate all the information about Inter-library loan. I have done this before, they do not let you take the book from the library just read it there for the about 3 weeks. I have been to Clayton library , they have an abundance of records. I looked on line, but you have to have a card to access it, which I don't have as I live 190 miles from there. thanks, Gladys
