    3. Gladys, Thank you for trying. I don't know where they were in 1860. I only know that they were in Georgia in 1850, and Arkansas in 1870. I think Catherine may have died and James remarried Candis. It's conjecture at this point. I have not had luck finding them in Ga or Ark in 1860, so I thought maybe they were crossing over to Arkansas. Thanks again, Gladys. I think you're right - the index missed the family in 1880 and 1900 too, misspelled their name! I guess I'll have to pour over the census the old fashioned way. Jayme

    2. Jayme, I tried to look these people up but none came up to fit the description. None came up for MS, GA or Ark. I know from experience that not all are indexed, some of mine I have had to scan the census to find them. Were they in MS in 1860? Gladys

    3. I was hoping someone with census index access would look up on the 1860 census the family of James McElrath. Wife: Catherine or Candis Children: Hiram, William, John B. or Byrd. I am guessing they may have been migrating from Georgia to Arkansas, since they were in Georgia in 1850 and in Arkansas in 1870. Thanks for any help. Jayme Berry

    3. Re saving pictures of family on Christmas Cards, several years ago I bought a stack of cheap 3-ring binders and packages of acid-free plastic sheets (the kind that holds an 8 1/2x 11 sheet of paper. I slip cards, announcements, newspaper clippings, letters, anything of a memoribilia nature into the sheets and then sort them into the binders by surname. In my own family, for instance, I have a binder for each of my children, one for my siblings, etc. I also have dividers, and as my collection has grown I now I a quick reference for each individual's records and pictures. I have great plans to keep this organized and write a story about each individual, but as that may never happen, at least I have everything sorted for future generations. Joyce

Since many of us do save them, this years, I wrote on the back of each one I got, who was who, and the jist of how they are related. We got one from my hubbys second cousin kids, my daughter didn't know who they were, even though we had seen them last year. So I figured, Date them, write the parents name and grandparents before I put them away. It might be a gold mine some day to future researcher, our G grandchildren a 3rd cousin, who knows. Everyone I have talked to, does not throw them out. They get stashed away in one box or another. So in 50 years, it might break down some ones brick wall:-) Just thought I would share the idea Patricia
