    1. RE: [MISSISSIPPI] 1870 Tippah Co. location question
    2. Ona Patrick
    3. Molino is now in Union County. Union County: Square miles: 417 1996 Population: 22,875 County Seat: New Albany Union County was named "to express the now existing sentiment between the States". Union Parish, Louisiana, and counties in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, in the South; and in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Oregon and South Dakota also were named for the Union. New Albany originally was called New Alibano or New Albino, pronounced with the accent on the first syllable, taking its name from the nearby ancient Chickasaw village of Alibano, the name of which may have meant "lofty mountain". Formed under Third Constitution (1869-1890), July 7, 1870, Union County was established by an act of July 7, 1870, from parts of Tippah, Pontotoc and Lee counties. In the Flatwoods and Pontotoc Ridge soil areas of northeast part of state. Molino (Keownville) Molino Post Office (historical) (Keownville) - changed from "Claysville" to Molino in 1875. The office was discontinued Nov. 30, 1909. Upon closure, Molino's mail was distributed from New Albany. Molino, Mississippi, United States [Place] is in Union County; location is 34?34'31"N 88?53'33"W -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, February 02, 2004 5:33 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MISSISSIPPI] 1870 Tippah Co. location question Dear list members, I looked through my atlas and could not find what I was looking for. 1. [MISSISSIPPI] DeSoto MS 1870 Census - Thomas Harris Brown of Albemarle Co. VA
    2. A. Land Harris
    3. I just found out that in 1870 Census the Brown family was in DeSoto MS - Thomas Harris Brown and Elizabeth MarshallHamner Brown and their children Thomas Elliot, Gertrude Elizabeth (my grandmother),Ida and John Augustus Brown -- and then sometime later returned to Albemarle VA. Thomas Harris Brown was born in Albemarle Co. March 25, 1823 and married Elizabeth Marshall Hamner in Nelson Co. December 20, 1853. I believe he was part of the large family of "B" Brown's of Brown's Cove, Albemarle Co. VA but do not have any information on his parents, sibs nor his ancestors. I am very interested in any Browns in DeSoto at the same time or prior to 1870 that might be related to my family. Thanks for your help, Augusta Land Harris -- Facinated by Family Brown, Harris, Hamner, Herndon, Hendley, Norris, Land, Clarke, Laughton, Nimmo, Reid, Peebles, Lucas, Webb, Hart, Wilson, Gregory, Taylor, Osborn, Terry, LeGrand to name a few.
