Yes, the initials are T. J. You must know me??? Again thanks for the help. Thomas
To Ona, Sorry I could not seem to contact you personally. Is the LITTLE PEE DEE Area of SC in the same vacinity as the WINYAW Area? There were a large number of GIBSONS in the latter area. Two of my HARRISON Brothers, JOSEPH & JAMES were married to GIBSONS. Can you tell me anything about these two areas? Gratefully H. Fisher
I am running behind a day due to having a bad sick day here. So I did not get time for my look ups etc. I still have to do a lot of studying and a research paper for tomorrow also. So am looking only at a bit here and there this evening. I am keeping everything you send to compare against my data bases . So rest assured I am keeping them in order you send them. SIN
Sin---This is my 2nd great-grand-uncle: Malachi Watts born abt 1834 in MS. Do you know what "The Singing Down Funeral" means???? "In the CSA Co. A 31st Mississippi Infantry (Malachi led the "Singing Down Funeral"-unknown as to what this means?)--from Dr. and Mrs. W.R. Walker notes from the 1970's" Patti Patti: I am betting this refers to a style of funeral/burial service. Just like there is the New Orleans style Jazz funeral for some. I have heard of songs or sings that referred to leaving behind troubles and going to glory or gloryland (Heaven.) Bet this is close to that. However, I am going to research this one a bit further for you. Mainly because of the Civil War interest here. Will get back to you on this. SIN
Yes the Little Pee Dee area of SC is in the vicinity of the Winyaw area. There is a little Pee Dee river and an upper Pee Dee river. They are primarily in Marion County and on into North Carolina. The Winyaw area is named for an indian tribe in that area. I have researched extensively in the area looking for my GODBOLD families. Some of them were found to "have moved west" in Franklin County, Mississippi. I have four books of extracted probate records and some land records. If you wish to contact me directly I will do some research in my books. I do not think we want to diverge from the Mississippi research, however. My MS research is in Choctaw County and Webster County (formerly Sumner County). Names are JONES, SEALY, WRIGHT, PARHAM, etc. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, February 16, 2004 1:33 PM Subject: Re: [MISSISSIPPI] Harold Fisher names >To Ona, > >Sorry I could not seem to contact you personally. > >Is the LITTLE PEE DEE Area of SC in the same vacinity as the WINYAW Area? >There were a large number of GIBSONS in the latter area. Hi, Ted, I don't know how big a town/city Lanett, AL is, but I was wondering if you happen to know a John Hamner in Lanett? We went to college together, graduated the same year - 1959 - Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. If so, how are he and his wife doing? I saw them back in 1999 at our 40th class reunion. Thanks for your response. I can find no information on the web. My guess would be, (hymns) were sung instead of the Bible read and/or as the coffin was lowered into the grave . Similar to military funerals of old when a regimental song was played by musical instrument, regimental band or bagpipes. Patsy
Would the GIBSON names happen to include Robert Wilson GIBSON [b. SC, d. MS] m. prior to 1820 [?where]to Ann Caroline/Carolyn BAKER [b. ?SC, d. Claiborne Co. ?1857]?? Wilson GIBSON d. in Franklin Co. in 1820. He may have been from the Pee Dee, SC, area. His widow Ann C. GIBSON m. Robert SANDERS/SAUNDERS in Claiborne Co. in Dec 1820. Hi Kate, In your search of the People and descendants that came to Mississippi, I would appreciate any help on locating Hezekiah Byrd's parents, I have not found any information or data on His family, He came to Mississippi in the early 1800's, there was a William Sutton Byrd and a George Byrd that came through the same areas the same time and I can trace them back, but I have not fond anything on a Hezekiah Byrd, some of the professional think after he was in the Military (SC Militia) he could have had to use a first name or a name change that has not been locate and lost his identity. It has been suggested that his parents may have been Michael King Byrd and Laney Branch, Thanks for any help Melvin Byrd
