    2. Edward Hall
    3. Folks: This is what it is all about. Each of us doing our bit to help, and one day we will have it all done. I take no special credit, cause I learned at the elbows of some very good genealogists. I will not say their individual names cause I know that would be their wish. Cause we are all here to help each other. and I am glad my data bases are helping. I wish I had someone to take my place when my time comes to stop; and before that happens, I will back everything up and send it off to whoever I can to see it continue. Thanks for the compliments, but I take them for those that took time to teach me. I believe he would have been engaged in the Battle of Corinth or Iuka. There was a college in Corinth that was turned into a temporary hospital. And the Corinth National Cemetery in the vicinity does not include N H Temples name. With records of his death from the hospital, I found it hard to believe that he would be buried in an unmarked grave. I couldn't find information that would have me believe that there was a cemetery where the College/Hospital was located. No evidence that the family received the body to be placed in his hometown area of Clark County, MS either. > I started this letter just after I seen your posting, it got late and I saved it for another time. 1. [MISSISSIPPI] Baumgartner
    2. SIN I signed on this channel at the right time - you must be some kind of local genealogy genius! Hope we can make some headway with my Billet relatives! Looking for Rudolph Baumgartner. There were 2 of them in MS. I'm wondering if mine is the one who served in the Confederate 5th Regiment Louisiana Infantry AND in 1870 and 1880 was living in Summit, Pike, MS with wife Helena and step-children last name Hakenjos and one child of his and Helena's - Adolph Baumgartner. Helena Baumgartner is buried in the Billet tomb in Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans. I believe her maiden name to be Kuntz but can't quite prove it. I don't know where Rudolph came from - Austria or Australia - census takers had great humor. I'm going with Austria or near there. In 1880 he is T. Rangardner, age 45, in 1870 he's Rudolph Baumgartner, age 36. Helena is 40 in 1870 and 53 in 1880. Tomb gives date of 1827 for birth and 1886 for death. She died in Summit, Pike, MS - her death is recorded in Louisiana. Think she was visiting relatives when she died. Any help is appreciated! Susan Billet in Kansas

    3. Thanks for looking for me. I really appreciate it. Take all the time you need, believe me. I have waited this long (really not that long, since I only started this genealogy journey back in 1996). Wish I had started at a much earlier age, that's all. I just want to say one thing: My g grandfather may not be listed as Joseph or Abner, either one. He may be listed as J. A. Johnson or Joab Johnson, so when you get a chance you may need to look for those two names or initials. Thanks again. If you give me at least two months, I will be through with School and then have more time for much deeper look at this for you. So we know there are some names worth a look see at this point. If you want to look elsewhere, I would suggest you contact any good reputable DAR or such organization and see what if anything they may be able to come up with for you as regards this request. I think my data base should have something, just takes time to sift through it for you is all. > SIN > > > ==== MISSISSIPPI Mailing List ==== > Visit the Mississippi-L Website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mississi > where you can both SUBSCRIBE and UNSUBSCRIBE with a click of the mouse. > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. Sin, Sorry to say, I haven't been working on the Byrd line in a long time. I have only the information that you sent to me. I have been working on my Ross/Weaver/Payne lines trying to help a "cousin" get information for a book on the Ross descendants. Father's paternal side of the family. Another line is Goodson/Dove. Mother's side material of the family I am heading up a reunion to be held on Saturday, April 24, 2004 in Hineston, Rapides Parish, LA where John Edward and Cassandre Goodson Dove are buried. They were my great, great grandparents. My great grandfather and other relatives are also buried there. If you come across ay information on John David Neal and Martha Brown in MS I would appreciate it. He was born Feb. 18, 1797 in Beaufort Dist. SC and she was born Sept. 19, 1976 in SC, they were married April 21, 1824 supposedly in MS. Their first three children were born in MS before they moved to LA. Their first child was John David Jr. and Eliza Ann Seiber Neal. Their son, John Alexander Nancy "Nannie" Mallard Neal, my great grandparents, were both born in LA. Family story as I grew up was that Nannie was half Indian, she died during or shortly after the birth of my grandfather, their third child. My Aunt Geneva, the oldest of the family, who will be 97 on April 15th, is still very alert in her mind and my Uncle Cliff, the youngest of the family, who was 80 on Sept. 11th, also very alert and active both tell me that they believe she was of the Choctaw tribe. Like everyone, we didn't think to ask Grandpa, Robert Mansfield Neal, any questions about his family when he was alive. We were closer to Grandma, Ethel Palestine Dove Neal, side of the family. If anyone on the list has, or think they have, any connections to the families listed above I would appreciate hearing from you. I am also researching the Shumates of MS and would appreciate hearing from anyone on the line also. Hazel Payne LeBlanc

Walker family was still there in 1930, but have not found Jennie Larkin since 1910. I will try to see what I can find, just tried everything I can. Thanks again, Gladys

All kinds of Elizabeths but none that I could connect for you. However, my Smith lines have a lot of data still to be added. When I am through updating my data, I will let the list know, and suggest you recheck back with me. The time period along should give us something. I tried all variations of names you sent including Smith, Hunt, and McCrary. You checked any cememtary listings yet? SIN PS I am betting we tie in some of your smiths soon. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeri Ziglar" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 16, 2004 6:03 PM Subject: [MISSISSIPPI] Smith/Smythe & McCrary > Hi Ed/Sin, > > Holy cow, you sure know how to generate some enthusiasm on this board! > Being a relatively new subscriber, I missed your earlier posts, but very > much look forward to your future contributions. > > I see that one of your lines is Smith. 1. [MISSISSIPPI] Hi Ed, Civil War Buff
    2. Adrian & Briana Etie
    3. I know a member here at the MS list that is in search of a Needham H. Temples who died in a Civil War hospital. He is looking for his burial place. I am going to refer to my notes even though I think I have the information memorized. Here is one of his postings to this message board. He is Pvt. Needham H. ( N. H. ) Temples Co. E Shubuta Guards of Clarke County, 37th Infantry Regiment of Mississippi His records show he joined the Jasper Defenders of Jasper County Ms in 1861. In March 1862 along with his Father and Half-brothers went to the Co E Shubuat Guards. They mustered in on 8 March 1862...On April 7, went to COLUMBUS Ms. In June-July they went on to IUKA MS..The Sept-Oct Muster Card shows (Sick in Hospital, 30 Aug. 1862 ) The Sept- Oct card shows Sick in Hospital....The Nov- Dec 1862 Card shows (HE DIED IN HOSPITAL ON 20 OCT 1862 ) This is all the Information shown,,The NARA..The State Archives and Brandfoots publishers has the same information.....His WIFE.. DID NOT APPLY FOR A PENSION...She did, however, apply for his back pay and received the $65.33 in 1864. The Mississippi State Archives does not seem to have any more Information on Him...Maybe there are some books that list the Confederate DEAD that may show him. His brother ALONZO TEMPLES was Sick about the same time..Sent to Lauderdale Springs Hospitals and recovered to live to 1917. To You NICE people who want to HELP..Please Understand, This one is not easy and May Never be solved. Thanks for your Help and Patience. Thomas Temple Have you seen this one in the archives Ed? I thought I could help by looking into some records at the Clayton Library namely the following: FINAL REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONER APPOINTED TO CONTINUE WORK OF LOCATING AND MARKING GRAVES OF CONFEDERATE DEAD, 1861-1865 Cabinet: C60 Drawer: D05 Roll: ROLL #92 ID: M-0918 Format: FILM Coverage: CIVIL WAR Total: 01 Dates: 1861-1865 Box Title: REGISTER OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS, SAILORS & CITIZENS WHO DIED IN FEDERAL Due to more than one illness in my family I have yet to make the time. I wondered if you knew of these records at the Clayton Library and if you had were they useful to you? I have tried following his regiment in their battles and the date of his death. But not knowing how long he was in the hospital prior to death gives a bigger window. Tonight I looked through the mailing list and see your reputation proceeds you. I had no idea you would get so many inquiries. I am sorry to add to the list. Though my motives are purely unselfish. For this query is for another patient man with a long awaited unanswered question. I thank you so much for your consideration and I wish I could return the favor to you directly. However I do believe what comes around goes around and truly hope somehow your generosity is returned ten fold. 1. [MISSISSIPPI] Re: Spellings Goodwyn/Goodwin and others
    2. Edward, you are correct there were all kinds of spellings. Gooden, Godwin, Goodwyn, Goodwin, Goodin etc. Just however the one writing spelled it. My own father I thought it was not him in Ellis County, TX in 1910 until I found in his father's probate record where he was working. His name was Samuel Godwin living and working for a family. Thanks, Gladys
