I found an Edd Easter age 21 and Lacy age 18 living in Lauderdale county, Hurricane Crk. Census page 251 (Sheet 6A). I can't read the name of the family they are living with. Hope this helps, Becky in Ohio
Still looking for Luke Easter and his family for 1900, but I found his son Ed(Edward) in 1900, so I am positive I will find: Bennie in that year too. Mother Maggie too, after 1880 I find him as Bennie Easter in 1920 with wife Isabella/e. Karen
Still looking for Luke Easter and his family for 1900, but I found his son Ed(Edward) in 1900, so I am positive I will find: Mary J, in that year too. Mother Maggie too, after 1880 I find them minus MaryJ as Esters/Ester/Easters, to presently Easter. I have Mary J Easter as Preaster in 1920 Lauderdale County MS. She is 38 years old so she would have been born in 1882. It is possible she might have been married earlier, but I need 1910 Census for MS. Can someone assist? Karen
Karen, I did a search for Bennie, J. C. Easter and did not find them in 1920. I also put in Easter to see what came up and looked at the ones in Lauderdale County. I don't have time to do a scan of the census now. I have to see after my elderly aunt in the hospital. I just had time for a quick search and write to you. Best wishes, Gladys
Need a Census look up for an African American JC EASTER of Meridian MS. Need to know who his parents are, have JC Easter in 1920 Census, about 10 yrs old living with Uncle Bennie Easter and Isabelle/a along with cousins. Thanks! Karen
Well Thanks any way its no problem I will probably go down to Jackson MS and get the records because there is more I want so thanks any way. It will just be a nice ride down there. I don't mind paying for the service but I figured if I paid 15.00 for 3 different records them I could go there cheaper and enjoy the sencery to Jackson down the trace. I need more records that are down there also. I probably can get the record at Wallace State Jr college they have lots of records there. I think I can get it at the library in Birmingham ALA also and I will be going there March 3 and I can wait that long. I have been able to work with a university Head Librarian to arrange for research by a Library Sciences Grad Student who is on a work-study program. The student gets paid by the hour ($8.00 in this case) and gets credit for the work done, and I pay for the costs of copying and postage. Its a win-win situation: the student gets paid and gets credit, and I get the documents I need. I received a very large envelope with copies of old (early 1880s-onward) newspaper articles about my family, and when I transcribed these, they turned out to be 12+ pages. It was worth every penny. Harriet
Sin, Your reply was appreciated, but I think I got you off on the Martin line which was Mary Mason Davis' Martin's first husband. Her second husband was my Dr. John Dawson McConnell who I am researching. Her maiden name was Davis. I have found her marriage misspelled in some online records as Marlin, but I don't know how to correct this error. Anyway, I am hoping someone searching the Davis line in MS or McConnell line in MS has some info. He moved to MS from Indiana, was a teacher for a while, then moved to Vicksburg where he was publisher of the Vicksburg Sentinel paper, then he married Mrs. Martin, and became a doctor in the town of Brownsville. A genealogical contact told me a story of how he shot her ggrandfather because of a misunderstanding about "the recent unpleasantness" but I haven't found the newspaper source of that. Anyway I'm looking for either's burial place and his parents, he was born in PA. Thanks for all you're doing. Anne Klein
Harriet: This is exactly what I hope to do for some of my time off from college. If I can do the research and give that room of records some kind of order, then I will no doubt be ainding a lot of folks in due course of time, not to mention give me something to do in my spare time (who has that now adays?) that will allow me to get credit for future benifits towards my degrees. Do you have an address or E-mail for the Wallace Jr College??? Thomas
I looked on Heritage Quest in 1900 and 1910, and there was no Frank or Sarah Brewster listed. I did find an SJ Brewster in Lauderdale, in 1910 with a daughter Edna L aged 16. No hits on those names anywhere in MS. Could they have used initials instead of a full name? Looking for Frank and Sarah BREWSTER in the 1900-1910 index, probably Lauderdale Co. MS. In the 1910 census Sarah Brewster would be about 54 born in MS with one son Joseph Brewster about 23 born in MS. Thank you so much for your help. Shirley
Morning Genies: I looked at the first batch of email.Saw I had a few look up requests. Will try to get to them some time today if I get done all my homework from college. If not, will try to catch up during the week. With Spring just around the corner so to speak, I have a number of engagements to attend. First a jazz festival this coming Friday, and the following Friday, I have a luncheon with my Multi-Culture Club followed by a trip to an Oriental Temple and then a Bowling night with the college Kids. That is going to be one long Friday, Then I have a Theme Park Visit coming up, which I am hoping does not collide this time with Pig Roast at nearby Dayton where a bunch of Motorcycle Enthusiasts will gather for a weekend...All in all, my break from College is going to start with a bang. Before all of that, I have to get my garage cleaned out, So I can get my cycle out and get it running. I know at my age doing all of this, I am crazy. But what the heck, someone has to show these youngsters how to have some fun in life. (SMILE) Forgot to mention the Theme Park means I take my teenage daughter and granddaughter along and they wear me out and make me know my age. With all of that, I will be studying and also doing my genie best for everyone. Which sorta reminds me of something I have wanted to mention. If each of us does a bit of looking up information for others, it tends to create leads for ourselves on those stumbling blocks we often run across. I know some of you have not seen the old records wrote in the scripts and styles of the old languages. Sometimes it takes a professional to decipher them. My wife is very good at that. I am not sure how she does it. I have to have the translations done for me, or else seek out someone who has time to do it when I get those kinds of documents. So we all can do our part. I chose CIVIL WAR because I love the history of that era and of course my numerous relatives who fought on both sides ...Though of course most were Confederate die hards. I ran across a wealth of information for folks from around this area. A room full of records waiting for a good genie to at least give it some alphabetical order. So I also plan to see I can do that and get credit (College) for it over my time off from college. It may lead to my building a web site for that information. DO not know yet. Just know I want to get to it. Wish I had a helper to help me organize photographic history of the Civil War with a cross index of names and of places, etc. Then when someone asks about a person, we could put a photo if available to it, along with history of that particular ancester. I had two ancesters fought in most of the major battles. One died in the fire in the Orchards. Well enough of my ramblings. Time to get to homework. SIN
Sin, Today's mail brought me R. Baumgartner's obit! One of the friendly, helpful people on the list found it for me! He died in 1910, his funeral was from his son Adolph Baumgartner's home at 1131 Delachaise Street, New Orleans. That's the only relative mentioned. There sure are a lot of friendly, helpful genies out there! If I never found a single soul in my own family, I feel like there's kin out there - just like you! I'm still interested in R. Baumgartner in the Confederate army in the Civil War. Got anything on that? I've printed out your suggestions and will try to find out how to do them. Ashley Baumgartner is very interesting, considering the obit took me to the map to see that Summit and McComb are next door to each other. The obit says he lived in McComb for 40 yrs. but the 1870 and 1880 censuses have him in Summit. May have merged by 1910 or the names are used interchangeably. We have some of that here in the area of Kansas where I live. Helena Baumgartner's maiden name is another puzzle. Remember she was first married to a Hakenjos. That's not her maiden name. Thanks for the help! Susan Billet in Kansas
