    3. I saw T.J. Payne, but he doesn't seem to fit. Now I'm going page to page in Rankin county. I have access to both Ancestry and HQ. Ancestry misses names sometimes or misspells them. I think Thomas' mother's name was Mary, because she is living with Thomas and family in 1870 and listed as 60 yrs old. According to my Aunt's bible Thomas had two brothers, William and Arthur and a sister Virginia. Thanks for the help, I could sure use another pair of eyes. 2. Robert, I guess I already knew that what I need is too early for a death cert. How abt. obits? Where would they be for 1886 Pike County, Summit, MS? I'm looking for Helena Baumgartner info. She died in Summit, her death cert. was in LA and she's buried in New Orleans. No obit found by helpful LA list folks. I'm trying to find out what her maiden name was and why she's buried in the Billet tomb. She was previously married to a Hakenjos and had 3 children with him. Any help is still appreciated!!! Anyone out there have any ideas? I'm in Kansas..... Susan Billett

    2. Mississippi started keeping death certificates in Oct. 1912. The MS Dept. of Archives and History has copies of death certificates from 1912 until 1943. Anything after 1943 can be obtained from the Mississippi Bureau of Vital Statistics in Jackson. Robert

    3. Sin, This is what I needed, words of encouragement, have said time and time again to stop. But I have decided to just ignore that person that called me out. I think that person had me removed,my goal is to learn and help during trial and error, that is what researching is about. Never had a problem until this person told me I was doing my searches all wrong. I submitted what I have and tried to elaborate on it as much as I can, with little or no information, can make it hard for me and others to search. But there should never be a reason to get upset and just remove me for trying. Oh well, I am just happy it is over!!!!!! I will resume some searches next time. Have to console my hubby and in laws at this time. Kay On Mon, 8 Mar 2004 12:39:10 -0800 "Edward Hall" <[email protected]> writes: > Kay: > > You are doing just fine. 3. There are black Mabry's in Texas. Have you checked the 1900 Texas census for this name? Perhaps they migrated out of MS prior to that time. It is a shame we don't have that 1890 census. Twenty years is a long time to try and track a family who may be on the move. By the way, when I get going, you are going to find some other researchers coming in here. I have not let out that I am on this list yet..When I do, I exspect to see a few folks in here who look at counties. You will be an oldie here then. We all need help. So learn as you go, and help when you can. So hang in there. You got my vote. Heck if they kick ya off, they can kick me too. (Smile) I think we got us a home for researching right here. These guys are great and I see all helping each other. 1. [MISSISSIPPI] For Joan Re:Relative joining MS Regiment
    2. Edward Hall
    3. but why would Joshua (a brother, a cousin, a coincidence?) join a Mississippi regiment? love joan Joan: First off I have not yet checked the data base, but it is not unusual for neighbor states to share soldiers from other states. Especially after the war started. You are asking a question I cannot answser straight from a data base. Only your personal research can tell you where he was when he joined, and what was going on, age (did he leave family and RUN AWAY to war) so to speak. The age line of 19-21 after the war going to Texas suggests this could be a possible to consider. But there were younger soldiers, some of course were run aways, and others joined up with their fathers in same regiments etc. First note the induction spot, who would he know in the area first off? Did he go to join relatives inlisting in MS regiments? Having noted where he joined and or was inducted into the regiments, ask a question or two of his age considerations, such as was it to gain some type of experience because he had none or was the odd son out (one not likely to get a family land i! nheritance etc.) These and other questions are to be considered when looking into such research. Hope this helped you. If you want me to check data base for any info let me know. SIN

If so, can > you send them > to me. Kay, I think it depends on the lists. The census lists' guidelines are more detailed, but the state and county Rootsweb lists usually only require that the subject of ALL postings be genealogical in nature and pertain to the list name. For instance, this list's guidelines state that postings not be off the topic of Mississippi genealogy. Because this one most definitely IS, we are both very much at risk of being suspended, so I will respond privately with instructions on how to get guideline copies for all your lists.

    2. Karen D Rogers
    3. I have got a big concern, I was removed from a list and I think it might be the way I present the requests. Do you have an email of the rules of how we are suppose to make the requests known so I wont get removed from future ones?? If so, can you send them to me. Thanks. I really need to stay on the lists I am on, a nice lady brought it to me again, I was not trying to disobey the rules. I have so much going on, deaths and burials, back to back now. So just when I think of asking I hop on and hope to get answers. Again, I would like to remain on the lists I have and need to get back on one BADLY. This time I will print out the instructions, our PC upstairs was Internet Accessibility, now I can only get emails. That's a bummer, but I am adjusting to it will. Folks on here have been so nice to help, advise, and even send over Census' to me on my African American families. You all are so wonderful to me and I wish to stay on. Can I have that big favor from the list researchers? Good Nite and Thanks~ Dee and Linda~ and ALL!!!!!!! Kay
