Hello My great aunt, Dixie IRBY, died in Marshall County on March 23, 1972. I have tried, to no avail, to obtain a copy of her death certificate from the Dept of Health. They say death records for genealogy purposes are only available to 1962. Does anyone know of any way I can get around this? Is there a loophole out there that I don't know about? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Beverly Portillo Hayward, CA RAOGK Volunteer for Alameda County

Hello, I am very interested in Lucille Carr Willis. Is there any way I can find out more? I beleive she is the sister to my grandfather (whom I have never met). I realize at her age this is delicate, but possibly her children or grandchildren could contact me. Thank you (more than you know) for this updated information! Thank you so much for taking the time to find this for us. This is the family we are looking for. Robert Carr, Jr. and Mary A. So far, this is the information we already have. Can you tell me how to find out about the other daughter they had (after 1930)? I plan on trying to find the husband and children of Lena M.Bringing this line of our roots up to date will "fill a part of the family tree" that is missing. You have been helpful in more ways than you know and we appreciate it. Mary, My Wrotens were in Newton Co. in the 1800s, but offhand I don't know if they fit with yours. My gggrandfather Henry Day married a Mary Elizabeth Wroten in 1827 in Monticello, Lawrence Co. MS. They then moved to Newton Co. and Decatur before 1840. Her parents were Isaiah Wroten Jr. and Sarah Louissa "Winny" Hickman. Mary was born May 6, 1810 in South Carolina. Henry was born Mar. 20, 1800 in SC. Both are buried in the Decatur, MS cemetery. Will have to check my FTM files to see if I have any more, but there are more Wrotens in the Newton Co. area. Butch

I looked at all the ones listed in the counties of MS and found only this one that might be in the age group of born 1872 and white. 6& 7 July 1900 Bt. 4 ED 35 pg. 289 #75 -75 Leake Co., MS Samuel J. Johnson no age or birth date given md 6 yrs. b. MS MS MS farmer Jennie E. wife age 28 b. Nov 1871 4 child 4 living b. MS NC SC Alma R. daut. age 4 b. Oct. 1895 MS Mary L. daut. age 3 b. You wouldn't believe how many of the names Alonzo and especially Samuel Johnson. There was more Samuel than Alonzo so did not look at those and it would take too long in most every County. I did find an Alonzo Johnson that might match as his age was closest to 1872 birth. The other two were younger. I did not find a Lance at all or the female at all, of course she had probably married. You did not say about the race, but these are black. Hope this helps, Gladys 1900 Newton Co., MS East of Newton and Decautur Rd. ED 47 sheet 16 A pf. 162 Alonzo Johnson black b. I recently found one of my great grandfather's brothers in Union Co., MS. His name was John H. Johnson, born about 1834/35 in Alabama. He married in 1869 in Lee Co., MS to a Darcas or Dorcas M. Gentry. Don't know if she was from Lee Co., or Pontotoc or just where. At any rate, I finally found them in Union Co., MS on the 1880 census (FHC). At that time, they had four children: Alonzo Johnson, born about 1872; Samuel Johnson, born about 1873; a female named Carereter Johnson, born about 1875; and Lance R. Johnson, born about 1878. I have no way of knowing whether they remained in Union Co. or not, since the 1890 US Fed Census was destroyed, I believe. How about the 1900 census? Is there anybody who has that census and could look up any one of the above people? Thanks very, very much for your help. Sue (Johnson) Howard
From: <jgpark@juno.com> Sent: Sunday, September 19, 2004 5:11 PM I don't know if this is any of your Wilson family, but someone sent this from the WPA records of Lawrence County at the Mississippi Archives. I have had people tell me of more than one Wilson Cemetery, have you found any in Monticello that are your family? I would appreciate it if you run across any Keegan names. Lawyers Of The Past. Judge Aloysius M. Keegan, a lawyer of considerable prominence in this county in the 1820's and 1830's, was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1832. A circular issued by him addressed "To the Voters of Lawrence County, 1833 is in the Department of Archives and History at Jackson. Judge Keegan's son, John Keegan, was also a brilliant lawyer, but was killed in the courthouse at Monticello by Mr. Willis before he had reached the height of his career. Members of the Keegan family ar buried in a lot adjoining the home of Dr. Wison at Monticello. My g-gmother Mary D. Keegan Larkin was a daughter of Judge Aloysius M. Keegan and brother, John E. Keegan. John Keegan was bc. 1825 Monticello, Lawrence Co., MS was in the Civil War and wounded. Their father, Aloysius Michael Keegan died in 1838 in Monticello. We found John Keegan up through 1870 census and think he died about 1874. Best wishes, Gladys
