Have you tried searching for someone to assist you using Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at raogk.org? There is often a researcher who has volunteered to do many of the exact things you are inquiring about sans the research fee (you just pay for copies and postage). I just had a request fulfilled in another state for a death certificate and burial information. The volunteers may have other obligations, but they are often prompt (I was also a volunteer for about a year). It is a great way to do a bit of "give and take" and help others out.
