    1. [MISHIAWA-L] Naturalization
    2. Hi Listers; Can anyone explain something. I just received from Shiawassee Historical Society a copy the naturalization records Shiawassee County. In it is record for Job Chipperfield renounces Great Britain & Ireland 5 May 1856. There are others saying they renounce Great Britain & Canada or Great Britain & Scotland. Does this mean that they lived in both places or that maybe the wife was from the other country? Please Help Thank you Bernie

    3. Bernie, Someone may have already answered you privately but it doesn't mean they lived in both places. Great Britain and Ireland mostly likely means that he was from Ireland (probably northern Ireland), which is a separate country, but is ruled by the same monarch as Great Britain...the same for Scotland and Canada, commonwealth countries. Hope that helps. Theresa --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.401 / Virus Database: 226 - Release Date: 10/9/02

    1. [MISHIAWA-L] WILSON
    2. Bonnie Barnes
    3. I haven't been on this list for a long time and never searching the WILSON surname, but I just recently got some really good clues from a Niagara County will for a James Wilson who was related to my family. The following names seem to be affiliated with Shiawassee Co., MI and were alive in 1900 Eber WILSON, Hazelton, Shiawassee Co. Thomas S. WILSON, Perry, Shiawassee Co. Elon R. Wilson, Corunna, Shiawassee Co If anyone knows of any of these people please contact me. Elon R. Wilson above seems to have had siblings James S., George W., and Thomas and possibly Harriet Hipp and they are the children of Moses WILSON. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get with this as I have been chasing these WILSON's for a long time. I thought I had the right WILSON line, but with all these new names I'm not 100% sure anymore. Thanks for any help you can give. I am willing to share any information with Wilson researchers if applicable. Bonnie Menzer Barnes Perth,. Western Australia

    1. [MISHIAWA-L] MILES, John
    2. Eleanor Nicholson
    3. Seeking information on grandfather, JOHN MILES. He died while residing in OWOSSO, Michigan (approximately 1925-27). I believe he was buried in Owosso. Married to MARY (McCartney) MILES, three children, MARION IVA (Holmes) MILES, BORN 1910-11. Twin sons born February 12, 1913, HARRY ELLIS MILES (my father) and CHARLES (Chuck) MILES--born in London, Ontario, Canada. After his death, the above family returned to BRANTFORD, Ontario, Canada. The children attended school in Owosso and Brantford. The boys were 12-13 years of age when their father died. I came across a portrait of JOHN when he was a young man and Chicago was printed on the folder. The boys were amateur boxers in Brantford and also boxed while in the Air Force. [email protected]

    1. [MISHIAWA-L] POORHOUSE Information
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We are grateful to Dale & Linda Willett for providing us with photos of the cemetery for the SHIAWASSEE County poorhouse. You can see that photo album now with photos of the few remaining gravestones. DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on MICHIGAN on the table of states. If you have been to the website recently you may have to click REFRESH or RELOAD on the browser to see the new information. There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
