Is there any mention of James and Elizabeth (Fuller) Worden or Major (Dunforth) Worden, in the Owosso A-Z book? I know they were in the Ovid and Greenbush area . Thank you, Tammy
Hi Tammy ~~~ 1st question - - what is the Owosso A - Z book? I don't think I have that. But, as for Elizabeth (Fuller) Worden or Major (Dunforth) Worden, there were many Wordens that lived (during those early times) in the Owosso - Ovid area and I'm quite sure they were all related and originally from that same area of Manlius - Rochester NY area. I have found more than one Major Worden in registries - - our Danforth is listed as being born in Manlius. There was another Major DUNFORTH listed and married to another woman, and a Major - - - - Worden also and I think they were all cousins or something. There also were some Wordens in Vestaburg, MI which is in the same area. There were calling cards (fancy ones, with colored roses etc printed on them) that indicated Wordens in Ovid and associated with IOOF and other fraternal organization.....I'll see if I can find those when I get that stuff out. Also, there were a BIG bunch of Wordens living in Grand Rapids and they had a furniture factory (listed in the city roster book of 1800's), plus they apparently hired other relatives as they were listed as employee of that furn. co. Since Major Danforth Worden first bought property over near Ionia, which is on the way from St. Johns to Grand Rapids, I feel this was probably where the highway was at that to access middle Michigan, and also that (Ionia) is where Major Danforth Worden registered his Greenbush property location and purchase - - at the assay office (this record is in the BLM federal records). But as for James and Elizabeth - - is this your gr grandfather? Is that the name of your great grandmother? If so, I will put it in my records....... For the one who asked, Laingsburg and Bennington Twp. are very close to each other. Living in Bennington Twp. my grandparents & great-grandparents would have their mail delivered from Laingsburg. Owosso is to the North. Not far these days but back then it was. My Dad was raised there in Bennington Twp. Started in the one room school house on Friegel Rd. and when his family died relatively young he finished school in Perry and then Owosso. The family's farm (Mitchell) was on Pittsburg Rd. in Bennington Twp. When my Dad lived there it was muddy roads, it still was the last time I visited there in the '90's and I have met the family who now own and run the farm. There was also another Newcomb Mitchell farm just to the South on Grand River Rd. gehill@tds.net wrote: Hi Nancy, Would that book have James Al(l)chin in it? Owasso A To Z written by Helen Harrelson and published by Crest Inc. Owasso in 1993 is a loving effort by a native daughter to detail the early days of Owasso and list by surname many of the families settled there. I wish I had known she was writing it for my grandmother used to tell me stories about her grandmother one of the first women to move there (from CT then OH and finally MI). The stories would have added to the early history of the area. Living was hard in those days as the market was so far from the farms. They hoped the capital of MI would be Bancroft but unfortunately for them it was some 60? miles to the West. Nancy
I say start collecting stories and sharpen your pencil!! You have work to do!! I learned that my great step grandmother, Celeste Pierce Root, moved to Owosso when her husband Lucius Root died where they were living in Chesaning. She had three young children to raise . . . not sure what their ages were, but Lucius died in 1891 . . . the newspaper obit was interesting . . . she apparently had finally retired and was caring for a grandchild who was just a toddler. She had a stroke and it was the child who apparently was left responsible for getting help. She never recovered as a result of the stroke . . . but imagine being that small child with your caretaker laying on the floor, not able to get up or answer you or understand that you were even there!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: <bartinsca@aol.com> To: <mishiawa@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 10, 2006 11:44 AM Subject: Re: [MISHIAWA] Jerome Sawyer 1810 - 18?? > Owasso A To Z written by Helen Harrelson and published by Crest Inc. > Owasso > in 1993 is a loving effort by a native daughter to detail the early days > of > Owasso and list by surname many of the families settled there. > > I wish I had known she was writing it for my grandmother used to tell me > stories about her grandmother one of the first women to move there (from > CT then > OH and finally MI). Thanks, Nancy. Betsy
That would be great, Jan. Yes, I do have access to Ancestry.com, but only for a short while. I have gotten quite a bit of information from there, but have just scratched the surface. When I try to search for Jerome Richard, I get thousands of results and have been unable to separate him from all the others except for the census records for Shiawasse. Any help would be appreciated. He is a problem! Betsy
I'm getting my mail back, says I am blocked, so if you don't get the census image, let me know . . . ----- Original Message ----- From: <BBrock7337@aol.com> To: <mishiawa@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 10, 2006 10:09 AM Subject: Re: [MISHIAWA] Jerome Sawyer 1810 - 18?? > Thanks, Nancy. > Betsy > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > MISHIAWA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
I am looking for any informartion on my grandfather's parents. My grandfather, Fred T. Gleason, was apparently born around 1872 in Laingsburg, Michigan. My grandfather's middle name was "Treat" and, according to my father, Treat was also his mother's family name. The 1860 census for Sciota, Shiawassee County, Michigan lists a Samuel Treat with a wife, Mary Treat, and three daughters, Alice Treat, Emma Treat, and Ida May Treat. The 1870 census for Sciota, Shiawassee County, Michigan lists a William H. Gleason born in Canada with a wife, Emma Gleason, living in Samuel Treat's household. The 1880 census for Laingsburg, Shiawassee County, Michigan lists a William H. Gleason with a wife Emma Gleason and two children, a Fred (age 8) and a Jennie (age 10). It is my suspicion that Fred is my grandfather whom was born in Laingsburg, Michigan around 1872. After the 1880 census for Laingsburg, Shiawassee County, Michigan, William H. Gleason and Emma Gleason disappear. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help me find out what happened to William H. Gleason and Emma Gleason (maiden name Treat) aftter the 1880 census for Lainsgburg, Shiawassee County, Michigan. Enrique Treat Gleason

Did someone need information about the Zimmerman family? It's getting late so I may be a little confused but there are several listed in my Owosso A To Z book. Nancy
I'm sorry, Betsy, I do not find your surnames in my book. Nancy in CA
I would like also to have a copy of that map. My Corcoran, Curtin, and O'Connor ancestors all lived some time or other in those areas. Thanks again for the information. Hi, I think I came in the middle of this. My gg parents homesteaded in Shiawasee Co. and go back to Mayflower. However I would just try and Google in both names and see what you come up with. I also have ancestry.com and I've found a lot of the Sawyers on it. Just what do you want or need or can you get to Ancestry.com Jan Herman CO On Fri, 10 Nov 2006 00:51:56 -0500 "Edward Zuellig" <ez1@ejourney.com> writes: > I would like also to have a copy of that map. Bennington is a wide spot in the road between Owosso and Langsburg. They are about 15 miles apart. Bennington has not had a Post Office since before the 1950s, if it ever did.
