Hello, I am new to this list and wonder if someone could help me with my search. James E. BENNETT b abt 1846 in NY was in Bancroft, Shiawassee,in the 1880 census. He was with his son, Manley, wife Rose/Rosetta Rutherford Bennett and daughter Anna M. Bennett and his mother Ama Bennett age 77. In the 1900 census Rose, James and Manley are back in Steuben County NY where Rose was born. Anna apparently has stayed behind and most likely has married. In the 1910 census Rose states she is the mother of 2 with two alive but Anna is not in the household and Manley and wife are. So many little details. I went to the usgenweb page and took a look to see if at least I could find Ama in a cemetery. But I am not sure which cemetery would service Bancroft. Could I get lucky and find someone who has any of these people in their data base? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Nana (NAY-na) RUTHERFORD Redell
Hi, You aren't going to believe this, but I think I have pictures of your Rockwells! I live in Elsie, Michigan. I have the family album of my great grandparents who lived in Fairfield Township. I immediately, upon reading your request, remembered the Rockwell pictures. I do not know if or how they are related to my family, but they are in the family album. If you will send me your personal e-mail address, I will be happy to e-mail them to you as an attachment. I'm not sure that I can send a picture attachment through Roots. In rereading your e-mail, I notice that you list a Lydia Linman. My son-in-law's mother was a Linman. The Linmans were among the early settlers in Elsie. I have some information on that family in my family tree, but I don't have a Lydia. I do have a Albert D. Linman, who was born March 23, 1840 and died in January, 1908 in Elsie. His wife was Mary J. Batchelor, born 1841 and died May 24, 1916 at her home in Elsie. They had 7 children: son -- name, birth and death unknown son -- Harry, born: December 11, 1867 and died: 1938 daughter -- Eva L., born: July 31, 1876 in Duplain Township, Clinton County, MI, died: January 31, 1876 in Duplain Township ( Elsie is in Duplain Township. Elsie is only a mile from Fairfield Township.) daughter -- name, birth, and death unknown " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " Lydia Linman may have been one of the unknown daughters of Albert and Mary, but I have no proof of this. Just a hunch. Looks like she would be about the right age to have married Elwin. I'm so intrigued by all of this that I'm going to go up to the Elsie Historical Room when I send this and see if I can find anything more on the subject. The room is closed today, but I have a key. I'll let you know if I find out anything. Leota Kajdas
I found this at Michigan County Histories" A brief statement that Merrick Rockwell settled in the extreme northwest part of Shiawassee Co. in 1854 In 1859 a Lydia Rockwell was given a tearchers certificate. Sorry it's about the parents and not his son. If he was in the produce business he more than likely grew and sold all sorts of vegetables. Or he may have bought and sold produce. Since he is listed as a farmer he probably grew his own. I am looking for information about Elwin Linman Rockwell for a biography. He was born in Fairfield Twp, Shiawassee County Jan 10, 1868. His parents were Andrew Edward Marick Rockwell & Lydia Linman. Andrew moved to Elsie in 1884, and then moved to Weldon Twp, Benzie County, Mich where he'd bought property in 1884/1885. According to Elwin's obit he didn't follow his parents north until 1886. In Jan1889 in Benzie County he married Susan Taylor and some time in the early 1890's they moved to Elsie, where he was engaged in a produce business. Son Leon was born in Benzie Co, in Jan 1891, and son Lyle was born in Nov 1893/4, daughter Cassie born in Sep 1895 & died in Jan 1896 - both in Elsie. I was told that daughter Kathrene born in May 1898 was born in Elsie, but have found a QuitClaim from Susan's side of the family from March 1897 which states Susan lived in Weldon Twp, Benzie County at that time. It doesn't make it impossible, but I have no documentation. My questions are - Can someone point me to any databases which could help in some of the info I need for Clinton and Shiawassee Counties? I have Benzie Co. fairly well covered. Does anyone know what a produce business entailed? Other times he listed himself as a farmer. Thank you, Kathy

Maria, I must have made an error. Roy was born July 1891 not 1881. I couldnt figure out how someone 10 years older would still be in the first grade. Robbie Rouke would have been the son of Martin Rourke and the grandson of Patrick Rourke. Patrick Rourke and my Michael Rourke were brothers. Leslie Allen and Roy Allen were brothers. Thanks for the information. Kathy Maria <mminear11@mcn.net> wrote: Kathy, My dad's name was Fred Krauth, his brothers were Frank and Stanley. Dad was born Oct 1890. Hello Maria, I have a census of a Roy M. Allen born July 1881. He would have been the son of Robert Allen. Robert Allen was the brother of Charles and the son of Alvin B. Allen. There were a lot of Allens/Rourkes living in Henderson and Owosso. Janet, The Alvin B. Allen I am looking for was born 1812 NY. He was the father of Charles or C.H. Allen. I have seen the Shiawassee Library surname index and was hoping that there was someone out there that could help me find more information. My Alvin and Charles lived in Owosso and Henderson Michigan in Shiawassee counties. The librarian in Shiawassee can not find obits for Alvin or Charles. Thanks for your help.
