    3. I'm not the first person, Jan, that requested information on the Cordrays. I am looking for information on Sanford and Mary, and later, Sanford and Flora Cordray. They are buried in the Elsie Cemetery west of town. Bert Cordray moved to Bannister after he married, first to Mary Nelson, later to Ivah Robinson. I do watch these emails for information on our families! Thanks for taking the time to look all these names up. I hope to get to Elsie when the weather is just a little nicer! 2. Kathy, First of all, YES, the historical society would love to have anything you have on your family. We treasure this type of thing and would put it in a green notebook just like all of your other family tree donations that we have been given. The cost of joining the Elsie Historical Society is $5 a year for a single member and $7 a year for a couple. We would love to have you join our group. We don't have many members, but the ones we do have are passionate about our work/hobby. The Riverside Cemetery book states that Andrew was a veteran of the Civil War. The graves of Civil War vets have a metal marker that says, 'Grand Old Army of the Republic'. When the weather gets better, I could make a rubbing of the marker if you would like it. I don't know who put the marker there, but I know that the American Legion post here in Elsie puts a flag on each grave every year before Memorial Day. The metal markers have been on the graves for many years. The cemetery was established in 1889 by the Elsie Village Council. (I just found that out tonight while doing some research for my daughter's book on Elsie.) The cemetery book also says that Andrew's stone is gone. I live just a mile from the cemetery. If you remind me later, I will go out there and see what the grave site looks like. (It's bitter cold here right now, and we have about 4 inches of snow on the ground.) Leota Kajdas Leota Kajdas

    3. Leota, I think our emails crossed paths. I sent one last night with some things I'd like information on, though I'm interested in whatever you find on the Rockwells or Linmans. And I will pay for any copies or mailing costs ahead of time, and anything else, such as gas, etc. Just let me know. And I also sent an email today, about the autograph book there is an A. Dunham and a Willie M. Downe. Let me know if you want me to email them to you. I have an order ready to send to the Historical Room as soon as I can get it in the mail. I should ask you, how much does it cost to join the Society. Though I more than likely will not be able to visit in person, I'd like to be supportive. In my letter with my request for cemetery books, I included a question of the one thing I'm very interested in knowing about -- whether my 2nd great-grandfather Andrew Edward Marick Rockwell was in the civil war. A lady sent me a list of Rockwells from cemeteries and it said he had a flag by his grave stone. I wondered if it was for the civil war, who placed it, and where they got their information. Because I've checked many civil war databases and never found him. My dad always swore Andrew had been in the civil war. A funny thing -- several years ago in 1980's, my nephew had a friend who stayed at their house with the family. (They were teenagers) His name was Scott Linman. At the time I had no idea how uncommon that name is. At least I don't find a lot of them as I'm searching. So I never quizzed him about his family, though I feel sure my dad did. I'll try to get a list compiled with details for you of some things I'd love to have, but as I said in my other email I don't expect you to cover it completely, whatever you can do will be more than I would have had. Once again Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous offer. By the way would the Historical Society be interested in what I have compiled for these families already? If they are I could work on editing it, etc and get something printed up to send. 2. Kathy, I am so enjoying the mail you are getting on the autograph book. I am finding people who are looking for people that I know and am able to help with information that I either have myself or have available to me. You are being an angel doing all of this looking for everyone. I believe you mentioned to me one time that you had a Dunham in the book. Would you be so kind as to look that up for me? The Dunhams and the Williams families that lived in Fairfield Township were all my relatives. They were among the earliest settlers in the Township. I have been to Florida and have lost track of where I am with you with the Linman family. Is there something in particular that I am supposed to be looking up for you? I have you in my Linman file in case I find anything I think you might be interested in seeing. I'm helping my daughter do research on a book about Elsie right now so I am digging deep into the old things we have in the historical room. I just may run into the name Rockwell somewhere. I have already found mention of the Linmans in articles that I have read. Leota

    2. I'm sure I was probably the Leota that Akhsah talked about. She had several miscarriages when she was married to Dr. Simonson so she sort of 'adopted' me when I was little. I have a note from her in which she called herself my godmother. I also have a little red sun suit that she made for me. I'll check with my sister tonight to see if she has a picture of Akhsah. Thanks for the kind words about our historical room. We are very proud of it. We don't have very many members of our historical society, but the members that we do have are dedicated to the preservation and organization of the material that we have and we love sharing with others. 2. Thank you so much, Leota. This is great information. I remember my mother talking about Asksah. She had some interesting stories about her, but none of these. Mother, Irene Vandemark, lived in Michigan until her family moved to Chicago, but she always spent summers in Fairfield Township with her grandparents, Gilbert and Frances Sawyer, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and with her other grandparents, Charlie and Polly Vandemark who had a farm near Byron. Mother used to mention someone named "Leota". Are you the one she was talking about? The list I originally posted were aunts, uncles, and first cousins of my mother. All lived in the Elsie and Owosso area, most on farms. Little of the Sawyer family is left in the Elsie area. As in many communities, most have moved off to other areas of the US. I visited the wonderful Elsie Historical Library last summer. You have such great information on the area. I encourage anyone needing information from the area to contact or visit the Elsie Historical Library. On Wednesdays, volunteers staff the room and will help you locate information from their extensive family files including census data and cemetery data for the area and can provide you with copies of all their data. In addition, school children previously were asked to do family histories for school project. Then, most donated copies to the library. I found great information in two visits I made to the library. I would love to have some photos of Acksah. She was my mother's first cousin. Thank you again for posting this information on this email contact list.
