    3. Hello Shawn, Did you check out the Shiawassee County Library surname file. There is a Emma Carlton 1858-1931 buried at Graham Cemetary. By any chance, is your Carlton family related to a William Carlton 1872-? He married a Jane Francis Rourke and lived in Troy, Oakland, Michigan and Rush/Owosso Michigan? Good luck, Kathy Shawn Sudduth <sudds_sd@yahoo.com> wrote: Hello everyone - I've just recently joined on and appreciate all the great dialogue that is shared. I am somewhat new to this work but most of my interest is directly related to Shiawassee Co. area. Several names I am looking for are FOLAND, CRAWFORD and CARLTON. For starters, I am researching the family of Isaac FOLAND b. 1829-d. 1903 who settled in the area, near Perry, in the mid to late 1800's. His wife was Ellen (Hardy) and they came to Michigan from New York. I have records from Graham Cemetery on Britton Rd. and have been able to trace the lineage to myself (I would be a ggg granddaughter). I am particularly interested in any information related to George Foland b. 1868 - d. 1927 (a son of Isaac) and his wife Verina L. CRAWFORD Foland. I am hoping to find her family line but I have no leads as to her ancestry or immediate family. I do know that she died in 1909 as a young woman after having four sons. Her husband, George Foland, remarried and i know nothing of that spouse either. The other people I am hoping to learn about are Owen CARLTON (and family) who is buried in Shiawassee Co. and died in 1968 or 69. His wife was Emma? BURNS. I have no other information regarding this person. I am grateful for any help or suggestions. Thank you. 3. Hello fellow Shiawassee researchers, This is my first time posting here. We have 4 family lines that have history in Shiawassee Co. I am looking for any info or ideas for researching the following people: Wallace GLEASON, our ggrandfather, who lists Philander Gleason as his father on his marriage application, dated 07 July 1890, but mother unknown. His age is 21, but on the 1900 census, his birthday is listed as Sept. 1871. In 1910 his wife, Ella FERRIS is married to an Edward Hazel and living with them are 2 of Wallace's 3 sons, Frank and George. Leo is missing. Wallace P Gleason married Frances Laura DOUCETTE, on Dec. 24, 1907, but I don't know if that is the same Wallace or not. The only Philander GLEASON I have been able to find is in the 1870 census, with daughters Maria, Margaret, Charlotte, and 2 month old Philander J. That may be a wrong age for baby Philander, because father Philander's wife, Ruth REYNOLDS, died in April of 1870, age 45. Father Philander dies in 1879, after marrying Elizabeth DECKER in 1973. I have no further record for baby Philander anywhere. I have wondered if Philander J and Wallace could be the same son, but no evidence to that fact. On an IGI individual record (Family Search International Genealogical Index), someone listed Wallace's mother as simply "Arthuse." Don't know if that is a last or first name. Some kind person looked for Wallace Gleason at the Shiawassee District Library for me, but with no results. Any ideas out there or info? My 2nd missing person is Fred F or T BROWN, another great grandfather, b. 1869, in Caledonia, Shiawassee. He was the son of Martin T BROWN, (b. 1870 in Jefferson Co. NY,) and Augusta KINGSBURY. Fred married Louisa CANNAVEN 009 May 1891, and is listed with wife and children, Oliver and Roxy, (our grandmother), on the 1900 census, but that is the last record I have of Fred. Louisa is married to Sandford TRAVIS on the 1910 census. I have checked Shiawassee cemeteries online, with no luck for either Wallace Gleason or Fred Brown. Any idea or info out there? Any help would be most appreciated! Judith Gleason _________________________________________________________________ http://homepage.msn.com/zune?icid=hmetagline

    3. Hello all! I've been working on the Needham Family. Thomas Delbert Needham 25 Dec 1796 born in England died in Saginaw, MI Mar 1857, wife Emeline Porter born in England Dec 1797. They were married in England about 1830's. Children were: Harriet Needham b 1836-1925, Thomas Delbert Needham 1826-? (buried in Oakhill Cemetary, Owosso?), Mary Ann Needham 1834-1924, William Henry Needham 1831-1903,Richard Needham 1831-? They went from England to NY then to Genesee County, Saginaw County, Shiawassee County areas. So far thats the oldest generation. Possibility of Lincolnshire, England area. I can find other Needhams from England in those counties but can't link them yet. Like Thomas D. & Elizabeth Needham approx 1796 era also and others. If anyone has information on these families it would be great. Cheryl

    3. Hi, Cordrays and Putnams came to Eureka - Bannister area ca.1840. I grew up in Ashley and my mom still lives there (have 4 brothers), so we do have contact with many of the Cordrays there and know how they are related to us. However, I'm trying to get info verified from prior to Gratiot - Clinton - Shiawassee residences (that means from Licking Co. OH)...... In particular, am looking for Cynthia Priest Griffith Cordray (m. to Thomas Cordray) - - her ancestry. It would probably be Licking Co. OH Thanks for your help. Jan B. You said that you had a book, souvenir of winter 1897, with a picture of 1st graders Freddie Krauth, Roy Allen and Robbie Rourke. He had a brother Patrick and mother Margarette that lived in the township of Rush. The spelling of their last name sometimes differs from O'Rourkes/Rourke/Rourk. The family can be found in census of 1860 of Rush township. Thanks Kathy

    3. Leota, My great great grandfather was a civil war veteran buried in Riverside cemetary, Charles H. Allen b. 1843 - 1919. I am wondering if the historical society has any information on him? KathyKulpinski Lkajdas2@aol.com wrote: Kathy, First of all, YES, the historical society would love to have anything you have on your family. We treasure this type of thing and would put it in a green notebook just like all of your other family tree donations that we have been given. The cost of joining the Elsie Historical Society is $5 a year for a single member and $7 a year for a couple. We would love to have you join our group. We don't have many members, but the ones we do have are passionate about our work/hobby. The Riverside Cemetery book states that Andrew was a veteran of the Civil War. The graves of Civil War vets have a metal marker that says, 'Grand Old Army of the Republic'. When the weather gets better, I could make a rubbing of the marker if you would like it. I don't know who put the marker there, but I know that the American Legion post here in Elsie puts a flag on each grave every year before Memorial Day. The metal markers have been on the graves for many years. The cemetery was established in 1889 by the Elsie Village Council. (I just found that out tonight while doing some research for my daughter's book on Elsie.) The cemetery book also says that Andrew's stone is gone. I live just a mile from the cemetery. If you remind me later, I will go out there and see what the grave site looks like. (It's bitter cold here right now, and we have about 4 inches of snow on the ground.)
