Just wanted to say thank you - now I have another venue to explore, in tracking down my largest brick wall. (Dorus Morton, who lived in Owosso, and died 1875-1880; all his children and grand children are accounted for in county records, but his death seems unrecorded.) Thanks so much. You may want to try the court house in Corunna to look up records. Or you could try the Public Library in Owosso. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Normanthegreat77@aol.com> To: <MISHIAWA@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 21, 2007 9:16 PM Subject: [MISHIAWA] Help finding probate information >I have a distant relative who lived in a town call Durand. I have a distant relative who lived in a town call Durand. Her name was Kathryn (kate) Webb. She died on October 20, 1953. What is the address and telephone number of the place in Shiawassee County where they keep records of wills and probate. Are they very helpful? My elderly mother from a nearby county needs to obtain some records there and I want to steer her in the right direction. Sadly, I am from Florida and can't help her at the moment. Thanks everyone for your help. Sincerely, Norm ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Have you tried searching for someone to assist you using Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at raogk.org? There is often a researcher who has volunteered to do many of the exact things you are inquiring about sans the research fee (you just pay for copies and postage). I just had a request fulfilled in another state for a death certificate and burial information. The volunteers may have other obligations, but they are often prompt (I was also a volunteer for about a year). It is a great way to do a bit of "give and take" and help others out. Just a thought.... Thanks, Leota, for your response. Maybe the marker was for both Martin and Myrtle, buried next to each other, since it had the dove and the chain links. This is a site that tells about the Rebekahs, the organization represented by the dove. Also note the three linked chain at the top of the site, the symbol for the Odd Fellows. _Click here: Rebekahs_ (http://www.ioof.org/rebekahs.htm) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Hi, The three linked chain is a symbol of the Odd Fellows and the dove is the symbol for the Rebekahs. These are lodges, much like the Masons and Stars, which were organized back in the 1800's and are still in existence, to a lesser, degree today. The men belong to the Odd Fellows and the ladies to the Rebekahs. The Rebekah symbol, in addition to the dove, also includes the moon and some stars (I can't recall for sure at the moment how many stars, but I think it's seven). My mother was a Rebekah for 75 years. Her tombstone has the symbol of the dove, moon, and stars on it. My grandparents and great grandparents plus several great aunts and uncles were also members of these organizations and have the symbols on their tombstones.
