    1. [MISCHOOL] VASTBINDER Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" three old photographs belonging to the VASTBINDER Family. The first is a photograph of Earl VASTBINDER'S wife and sons (Frank and Glen) taken in Manistique, MI and mailed to his Aunt - Mrs. Horace VASTBINDER in Lindley, NY. The photograph is date stamped 26 Sept 1910. His son Frank is identified as 2 years and 4 months old and Glen is just 8 months old at the time the photograph was taken. Earl's wife (unnamed) appears to be in her 20's at the time. The second photograph is identified only as Grandpa and Grandma VASTBINDER. There is no studio or location indicated though it was likely taken in the early 1900's with the couple appearing to be in their 60's at the time. The third photograph is one of Ruth SYLVIA, Wilbur VASTBINDER, and Ernest VASTBINDER. This photograph also has not studio or location indicated and was also likely taken in the early 1900's. The three children all appear to be 1-4 years old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this VASTBINDER Family: Earl James VASTBINDER was b. 19 Jul 1875 in New York to parents James M. or N. VASTBINDER (1840-1924 - son of Philip J. VASTBINDER and Phoebe MILLER) and either Samantha TIMMERMAN (1841-1890) or Ellen ADKINS (1839-1911). Earl was one of five children including Ella; Mary Ette; Francis or Frank: James; and Earl James VASTBINDER all born between 1862 and 1875. Ellen had been married previously and had three additional children including, Charles Wycliff ADKINS (1865-1931); Henry Corwin ADKINS; and Harry B. ADKINS so I'm not sure if she was his Mother or maybe step-mother. Some records also note another half-sibling born after Earl, Grace M. LUNDGREN (1880-1962) which would suggest that his Mother may have married again? Earl died 22 Nov 1912 in Manistique, MI and is buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Manistique, MI. Horace VASTBINDER was b. Jan 1837 in Elkland, PA to parents Philip J. VASTBINDER (b. 1804 in Sussex Co. NJ-1883) and Phoebe MILLER (b. abt 1815 in Lindley, NY-d.1892). Horace married Ethelaide HARRISON (b. abt 1840-d. 1917) and together they had 5 children including, Grace M.; Nelson Horace; Addie or Ada E.; Charles M.; and Archie C. VASTBINDER, all born between 1868 and 1883. Horace died 2 Feb 1914 in Lindley, NY and is buried there as well. Ruth E. SYLVIA was b. 1910 in Tioga, PA to parents Charles Samuel or Bishop SYLVIA (1882-1970) and Goldie or Golda E. or O. WHITE (1882-1943). Ruth had a brother, Howard Samuel SYLVIA (1913-1992). Ruth died sometime after 1940 in Dayton, OH. Wilbur VASTBINDER was b. 10 Nov 1909 and died 3 May 1925 and is buried in the Woodhill Cemetery in Franklin Township, Warren Co., OH. Ernest Clayton VASTBINDER was b. 20 Mar 1908 in Steuben, NY to parents Archie Clayton VASTBINDER (1883-1955) and Grace L. WHITE (1887-1960). Ernest was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Ernest Clayton; Wilbur H.; Etha or Etta Louise; Walter E.; and Carl L. VASTBINDER, all born between 1908 and 1926. His father may have been married previously and had three additional children including, John Wallace; Charles Reid; and Clifford Horace VASTBINDER all born between 1890 and 1899. Ernest married Lucy Mae SMITH (1910-2002) and together they had 4 children including two sons, James "Jim" E. VASTBINDER (b. 1939) and John Archie VASTBINDER (1939-2003). Ernest died 16 Jul 1989 in Dayton, OH and is buried in the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton, OH. Census records provide the following additional details: 1910 census of Manistique, MI: Earl J. VASTBINDER, age 34, married 6 years, born NY, parents born PA/NY, a Lumber Importer Mary E. VASTBINDER, wife, age 32, married 6 years, 3 children/2 living, born NY, parents born SWITZERLAND/NY Frank H. VASTBINDER, son, age 1 year + 4 months, born MI Glenn L. VASTBINDER, son, age 3 months, born MI I am hoping to locate someone from this VASTBINDER Family so that the photographs can be returned to their rightful place, with family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [MISCHOOL] MIGenWeb Supports Keeping the Library of MI Intact
    2. Jan Cortez
    3. MIGenWeb Supports Keeping The Library of Michigan Intact We, the members of the Michigan GenWeb project, wish to publicly state that we fully support the efforts of the Michigan Genealogical Council to keep the collections from the Library of Michigan from being separated or otherwise removed under Executive Order 2009-36, which disperses the archives amongst different departments and dissolves the Department of Histories, Arts and Libraries. We do acknowledge the financial crisis currently facing Michigan, however, we feel that the amount of money coming into the state from the number of tourists, visitors, genealogists, researchers and future entrepreneurs visiting the Library of Michigan is a revenue stream for the future of Michigan that the Governor should not shut down. In the words of Dr. William M. Anderson, on December 8, 2005, "I believe culture, broadly defined, is an untapped economic resource. When appropriately engaged, at local, regional, and statewide levels, our state's cultural resources can leverage significant new tax revenue, provide good paying jobs, and create sustainable enterprise. Additionally, Governor Jennifer Granholm stated on March 1, 2006, "We are going to base our economy more and more on our intellectual property, on the creative side, the value-added side of what we can offer. The power of creativity in propelling our economy is a fundamental building block of our state's transformation." The resources that the Library of Michigan holds are the stores of Michigan's intellectual property. Without them, researchers would have nowhere to find: - The largest collection of Michigan newspaper microfilm, which calls the Library of Michigan home. It covers all 83 counties of the state, over 1700 titles spanning more than 400 cities, townships, and villages. A collection of this scope cannot be found anywhere else. - The largest collection of Michigan city directories in the state. These directories document places of residence and occupations of Michiganders throughout the years. Patrons of the Library still use this collection for not only for studying genealogy, but also in planning for the future entrepreneurial enterprises and small businesses. - Ethnic Collections, like the Gorski collection, which focuses on Michigan's Polish Heritage, are not available elsewhere. - The Archives of Michigan holds over 300,000 historical photographs. Particularly important holdings deal with Michigan lumbering, Great Lakes shipping, Michigan mining, urban and rural life styles, and Michigan community scenes. - The collection also covers the entire Great Lakes Region, including New England, the Mid Atlantic, Quebec, and Ontario. Michigan is not in a vacuum. The Governor's Executive order would dissolve this part of the genealogy collection. Finally in the words of the Michigan Genealogical Council: "Innovation and Reinvention' can be done anywhere. Our state's cultural heritage center belongs together, in the Michigan Historical Center." 2. Beaurega
    3. Hi, I am new to this list and would like to know if anyone has any information on the family of Fredrich Regal and Anna Regal. In 1870 I can't locate him where he later died in WI. He was supposed to be working in Manistique for two years. So it is possible he was in Manistique in 1870. I would also like to know if he had a Gottlieb Regal with him or living near him in 1870. They would be brothers. Both worked in MI in the late 1860s. I would appreciate any help. I do not have any access to census indexes or census pages. I am on a fixed income, can't travel, and that makes it hard to research these two families. I have been researching these two guys for 17 years. I only lately found out he worked in Manistique prior to 1871-72. Paul

Our objective is to provide indexes of burials as well as photos and transcription records of all gravestones in Kalamazoo County. We are certain this site will become one of the premiere cemetery sites on the Internet! The project is being provided in the best interest of the Genealogy Community by a team of volunteers. We currently have collected data for over 60,000 burials in Kalamazoo County, and that data is in various stages of computerization.  As each of the cemeteries is completed, it will be added to our new site where it can be freely accessed by all. Our site is now available at the URL below.  Keep in mind, we are just beginning and we will continuously add each and every cemetery as we complete them.  In addition, cemeteries that have been completed will be updated yearly with any new burials during the year.  Our site is hosted by Rootsweb and will soon be highlighted by Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter. In addition to indexing burials we will have complete stone transcriptions, cemetery maps, cemetery photos, grave photos, printable township reports, printable cemetery reports and much more.  We also have an e-mail list for those who wish to be notified as the site is updated.  Please visit often. Please visit us at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikalam2/
