For instance, I found the parcel that my ggg-uncle purchased in 1859. He died in the Civil War, so I didn't expect to find his name on the 1877 plat map. But what I did find intrigued me -- his land had been acquired by his sister-in-law's brother, so it was still "in the family" if you will. So do check the plat maps to see who owned your ancestors' parcels -- you might get some fun finds :-) Carolyn has kindly posted the Saginaw 1877 plat maps at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~evansandobertein/photographs/platmaps/1877/1877plattmaps.htm . If you're unfamiliar with township terminology, there's a handy writeup at http://geography.about.com/library/weekly/aa090897.htm?iam=dpile&terms=establishment+of+townships . Mary Richardson
