The 1877 Saginaw County Atlas shows the O'Brien Hotel located on the se corner of Potter St. and N. Washington. Directly to the east of the O'Brien is the Gilbert Hotel and behind it are large horse stables. To the west and south on that same corner is a vacant lot owned by an M. O'Brien. Other lodging in that area included the National Hotel, the Irving House. I recall reading that at one time there were many, many saloons up and down Potter St. (nice way to greet the arrivals to town). Someone can prove me in error, but I seem to recall it was over 50. By the time I worked in the area for Mi.Bell in the 60s, there were still 10 or 15, mostly run down, but still open. Tim Naples, FL
