    1. Re: [MISAGINA] Schuch Hotel
    2. The Schuch Hotel was run by the late Senator John Schuch who was also a former Sheriff of Saginaw County, He was quite a collector and the walls were lined with his collection of beer glasses and "Toby Jugs." In December 1949, my grandfather Wilfred G. Shannon, who was an intimate friend of Schuch's, traded a Toby Jug to Schuck for a piece of Hobnailed glass. The jug was considered "the largest in the world" and was crafted in the likeness of Daniel O'Connell, a well-known Irish antagonist, also a confidant of my great-great-great-grandfather Shannon. The jug sat on a ledge until 1973 when one of the drunken idiots snatched it from the ledge and ran out the door. The owner of Zinger's chased him and the mug was smashed. There's still quite a collection hanging on the walls. Family lore has it that grandpa lost the family farm in a card game in an upper room, but that's another story. Senator Schuch appointed one of my uncles to Annapolis.
