Does anyone remember a "Gospel Hall" on either N Porter or N Granger Street, maybe the 500 or 600 block, in the 1950s? What denomination would it have been? I wasn't a member but every week, I think it was on Fridays, we neighborhood kids used to go. We would memorize a bible verse they gave us the week before and in return get a free candy. They had interesting bible stories "animated" on a felt "sticky" board, I remember one of the non-biblical stories was Pilgrim's Progess. It kept us off the streets one night a week! I still remember some of the songs we learned there. One of my favorites in particular keeps bugging me. The starting verse: "Into a tent where a gypsy boy lay, dying alone at the close of the day, did he so love me a poor little boy, send unto me the glad tidings of joy .... "
