Dear Patricia: When you install FTM to your new laptop, transferring your gen info is a very simple process. It involves exporting a GEDCOMFILE onto a floppy disc and then importing it in the new computer. I don't really see any problems with this. I have tried exporting a GEDCOM file and it does not transfer any photos in your albums.
