This subject brought back some fond memories: I remember working as a car hop at the A&W Drive-in on Genessee Ave. during the summer of 1955. Hot dogs with sauce were . 50, french fries .25, and a large rootbeer was .15. Children would get their rootbeer free in a baby mug. (Sure wish I had one of those baby mugs for a souvenir) It seems like I was paid .75 an hour and tips, which at that time were usually 15 - 25 cents a car. It was a fun job to see families drive in for their meals, and young couples out on a date, and the girls would be sitting next to their boyfriends. (This was before front bucket seats) And, young men driving their custom cars through the parking lot as they would cruise from A&W to Raymonds to the drive-ins on the West side of town.
