Paul Benyon replied with the technique using the batch number, which gets out all children if the family in the same batch - usually all the children in the same parish. There is an alternative, which gets children in several parishes. Don't put any names for the child - not even the surname. Put in the surname and forename of the father, and the forename of the mother. You can choose a country and county, and a range of years. You cannot choose exact spelling. As an example, put Michael Cass as name of father, Mary as name of mother, British Isles as region. You get 9 matches, with two parishes in Yorkshire and one in Lincoln - and it is all one family (and it's mine!). If you get too many hits it is worth adding the maiden name of the mother - but this loses a lot of genuine matches where the mother's maiden name is not in the record. For example, try children of Henry Hawgood and Maria, then try children of Henry Hawgood and Maria Pennestone - the first gives children from different families in Pembrokeshire and Rutland, the second reduces it to the family in Rutland. regards, David Hawgood
