Oops, I'm sorry--I hit the send button before I wrote my note. My question deals with tombstones at Oakwood Cemetery. I have tried numerous times to find a tombstone for William and Caroline Rugenstein on visits to Oakwood Cemetery. The cemetery office told me that they are buried in Section 55, Lot 45 and that their records show a stone was installed at the site. However, I have walked every inch of that part of the cemetery and can find no stone--only a large grassy area. They were buried in 1887 and 1925. Frustrating! Does anyone know if it is possible to have someone from the cemetery office go out and actually mark the place where the graves are located? Perhaps stones in that area were knocked over and are now buried under the sod. I would like to either resurrect the stone to its original position or have a new marker erected to honor my great grandparents. Mary Sue Schnell
What I can do to help people that are looking for someone in Oakwood Cemetery is announce the section we are photographing. When you see a section we are photographing call the office and ask if they would mark the grave for that day and we will be sure to photograph that spot and poke around in the spot if there is no headstone to see if there is a buried stone. Mt. Olivet marks spots when you ask and I am hoping Oakwood does also. Does anyone know this for sure? Carolyn Saginawsue@aol.com wrote: Oops, I'm sorry--I hit the send button before I wrote my note. Oakwood is a city owned cemetery, Mt. Olivet is owned by the Saginaw Diocese. I would suggest Sue call the city cemetery office that is located at Forest Lawn Cemetery and ask if they can do that. They take care of all city owned cemeteries from that site.
