    3. Dear Mary Sue - I was at St. John's Cemetary last summer and I have three digital photos from there. That was all of the stones that I was able to read. The best stone is for Frederick Bender, plus I have what I think is his sister Henrietta Eisenhauer, and a Hochthanner stone. Are you interested in any of these families? Deb Garcia PS - Carolyn - I can send you the three photos I have if you give me an address. Thanks -----Original Message----- From: Saginawsue@aol.com [mailto:Saginawsue@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, January 11, 2003 9:50 PM To: MISAGINA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MISAGINA] HELP! Saginaw Photo Volunteers Carolyn, I wish I were close enough to help with this project, but I am two days away by car. I would like to see 1) PINEGROVE Cemetery on old Midland Rd. between Freeland and Midland. It is a Tittabawassee Twp. cemetery of medium size. Also, the 2) ST. MATTHEW LUTHERAN cemetery on Hospital Rd. next to the church--also in Tittabawassee Twp. This is a small cemetery that could be photographed in a day quite easily. I have family in both and have taken 35 mm photographs, but no digital photos. Another is the 3) ST. JOHN CEMETERY near Frankenmuth (I think it is on Dehmel Rd). It is not near any church. There are many old tombstones there, but it would be easy to photograph in a couple of outings. The only problem there is the lighting, since it is heavily wooded. It might visits at different times of day to get the proper lighting for all stones. Thanks to you and all of your volunteers for all you are doing. Mary Sue Schnell

    3. ><Many of the tombstones are of the old type that are only about 2" thick, and many have toppled over. When they do, the sod starts creeping up on them. A few years ago, I searched the cemetery for a tombstone that was definitely supposed to be buried there. I didn't find it but I found many tombstones that had been toppled (possibly accidentally) and the sod nearly covered all of them. I imagine that there are many, many tombstones here that are covered by a couple of inches of sod. Forest lawn is a hugh cemetery located in the city's south end near Mt. > Olivet Cemetery. When we discussed this with the Saginaw cemetery director, it was clear that the perpetual maintenance that had been purchased long ago was no longer available. Moreover, it was up to us to have repairs made -- the City had no objections to our doing this. They didn't give us the name of any organization that could help us. Instead, my mother got in touch with a gentleman who specializes in such repairs. She may have even gotten his name from the City. Anyway, the gentleman met us at Oakwood, and we arranged for him to do the work. If anyone's interested, I can get the repairman's name for you. Just let me know. Mary Richardson

    1. Re: [MISAGINA] James Twp Cemetery, Stroebel Rd
    2. Hi, I have been very interested in the quest to photograph the cemeteries of Saginaw County. That is a great project. Many of the cemeteries mentioned have been "read" by some great ladies here in Saginaw County. One is the James Township Cemetery Located in Saginaw County, Michigan Section 5, T11N, R4 E North side of Stroebel Road, 1/4 mile west of South Center. This was previously known as the Swan Creek or McBrantnie Cemetery. I have been there. It is right on a very dangerous curve. Only 14 people are buried there. One is my great-great-grandfather, Martin Wenzel. I found the stone years ago laying flat on the ground. There are at least ten books published by the Saginaw Genealogical Society, Inc. on the Saginaw County Cemeteries. I am sure there are more. They, of course, don't contain pictures of the stones, but are very useful. They are fairly inexpensive and can be purchased from the Genealogical Society. Book Six contains: Buena Vista Twp., Kochville Methodist, Owen, Bethel Lutheran, FrankenmuthTwp., St. John's Lutheran. Book ten has James Township. Garfield Cem. 1, Garfield Cem. 2, Richland Lutheran, and Fremont Twp. Sherry

    3. Riverside is a township owned cemetery so the burial records are held by them or they can put you in touch with the sexton if they have one: St. Charles Township Office 1003 N,. Saginaw St. St. Charles, MI 48655 1-989-865-9010 Burial records will show who is buried in the plot so you might have more luck with those records.
