On the main page click on "City of Saginaw". This will take you to the cemetery list for Saginaw. Click on "Calvary Catholic Cemetery". This will take you to your viewing choices. If you want to see a typed version of the book click on : "Calvary Cemetery digital image transcription and indexes A-L and M-Z". This index will tell you what page to go to for your scanned image. You then hit your back button and click on "Calvary Cemetery digital images 1885-1912 book". Find the page you are looking for and click. It will take you to the page of your scanned image in the book. If you would like to see where the grave is click on the map of Calvary. If you click on any of the outer sections on the map it will take you to a close up of that section. If you want to see the headstones you will need to go back to the Calvary Cemetery page and click on "Calvary Catholic Cemetery Headstones A-L M-Z". Select the name you want and click on it for the headstone image. You might want to try the antique shop on N. Michigan in the first block north of Court St. It is owned by the former Arthur Hill High School teacher Rocky Scherzer(sic). I know he does pottery repair and at least could direct you to someone who could help you. The name of the shop escapes me right now. I need some place to have an antique doll repaired in Saginaw. It has china pieces and needs hair, clothes repaired. It was my grandmother's.
Dear Prime2003: Try looking in the Saginaw Yellow pages. Does anyone know where to get old German translated? It is supposed to be almost Polish, not the modern German.
If you have someone who reads old German, it would help with Oakwood. There are some really neat old stones.
Carolyn, I want to thank you so much for all your hard work. I have been trying to do research long distance, from Texas, and sometimes it gets a little frustrating. Thanks to you and your efforts I was able to see my great grandparents markers in St.Charles Cemetery. With that information I sent an email to the Saginaw Library and they sent me the obituary for my GGrandfather, William B. Thompson. I am planning a trip to Michigan in May and I have added St. Charles Cemetery to my list of places I want to visit. I know this is a lot of work as I too am a volunteer. I have been working on the cemeteries for Bell County Texas. My main focus is taking an inventory of each marker and getting the information on the web. Well, I jump in with both feet and just happen to pick one of the largest cemetery in the city. But, I am enjoying it, I have met some really nice people. Anyway, I noticed that you are looking for obituaries. I do have obituaries for my grand parents but they are very poor copies. Would you prefer the original or can I retype the information? Thanks again for all your efforts. Mary
Hi Mary, Glad to see you found some of your ancestors. That is what I do this for. So many have helped me and this is my way of saying thank you to them. If you could type the obits and email them to me I can link them. Thank you for contributing Carolyn Mld71124@cs.com wrote:Carolyn, I want to thank you so much for all your hard work. Just curious. What is the family name? I live in Steuben County and my husband had relatives from the Cameron area. Shelly, There was an Indian Town on Fergus Road, about 3 miles east of M52 between St. Charles and Chesaning. The bridge near Fergus is still called the Indiantown bridge. I used to go fishing there when I was growing up. I'll go to the library in Chesaning today and get the exact location. (I believe it is actually in Albee township.) Catholic Cemetery and County Poor Farm Cemetery were once located on what is now the front lawn of the Saginaw County Hospital. The remains found at that site were removed to the St. Andrew's Cemetery in 1906-1907. It is reported that the remains were placed into wooden rough boxes and when the boxes were filled, the cover was nailed down and the next box started. These boxes were re-interred in the St. Andrew's Cemetery. An article about this cemetery was written in the the Timbertown Log, the newsletter published by the Saginaw Genealogy Society. This is a quarterly publication that began with: Vol. 1 no. 1 (fall 1972). The Timbertown Log is available from the Saginaw Genealogical Society, Saginaw Public Libraries , 505 Janes Ave., Saginaw, MI 4860 Saginaw poor farm cemetery Timbertown Log 16 2 Winter 1987 http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/saginaw/cemeteries.asp Pat Hamp --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Duh! Guess I should've looked for the Section. Thanks for letting me know. I'll look forward to Sec. A's inclusion. pat
That's pretty funny. How on earth did your 3rd grandfather get born in a cemetery? I guess it would be quiet! I have noticed since finding some family at Maple Hill Cemetery in Oneida that that is a popular cemetery name -- any idea why or where it comes from? Pat
Hi Carolyn Today I called the St Charles, MI public library. One of he staff has heard of Indian Town. She said she believes it was near Fergus Road somewhere between St Charles and Chesaning. They are willing to look for information and put it aside for me to come in and look at it. I am trying to pick a date to give them as to when I can come to the library. I have been wanting to go there to see what they have and also what I might find on my family who is from that area. I will let you know what I can find out. Can you give me the death date of your Trumbel relative who was from Indian Town. I will see what information I can find, hopefully in the next 2 weeks. Shelly

Carolyn, Have you found John Trumbel in the census yet? I found 3 Trumbel/Trumbol families in 1860 Maple Grove Twp., Saginaw County. My great grandparents moved from Ft. Wayne, IN, area to Indiantown around 1872 and then to the village of St. Charles in 1907. I assumed the below location to be correct which I had located on a map. Indiantown was right where you said it is. But this 1906 obit states Indian Town (2 words) near St. Charles. I know the entire family always lived in the St. Charles area. All of the obit made sense except Indian Town. If anyone has an obit for any of the headstones on the site please email it to me and I will link the obit to the headstone. Carolyn
