    1. [MISAGINA] Chapin Twp. School Censuses 1871-1889 - Saginaw
    2. Patricia Hamp
    3. There are new files on the Saginaw MIGenWeb site for visitors to go through. >From the Michigan State Archives The Chapin Township School Censuses are started. The 1871 through part of 1889 are done. There were four schools in Chapin through this time period. All the schools had a number 1-4. One being the northern most in the township and four the southern most. As with most census takers the spelling of names, both first and last, has been extremely creative so far. The group documents, I was working in first are all getting pretty fragile as they are the originals so photocopying was out of the question. The listing for these files say they go to 1931. The ones done at present include the school, year ending (early September for this time period) the student's name, and age. The teachers that taught that year are listed for each class year. Later school censuses I have worked with in the early 1900 years for other counties have the parents and guardians listed. I hope to make monthly updates to these files until done. Just wish I could take a laptop in there. But maybe photocopies can be done with the later ones. It is sad that Chapin is the only township set that they have in Lansing. Are there more someplace else? Has anyone run across them? The direct link to the records for those interested are at: http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/saginaw/school_census/students.asp Enjoy! 1. [MISAGINA] William H. Clark Bio Request
    2. Patricia Hamp
    3. Does anyone have access to the various copies of the county histories that could check to see if there is a biography for William H. Clark? The Chapman or Mills books that I can think of off hand? We have his memorial and death record but neither lists his parents names. Hoping he had a bio that will. Would really appreciate knowing if he has one. Thanks all. Pat Hamp --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 3. believe it or not, some city directories are available at the Library of Congress web site so are some other things www.loc.gov search for michigan Michigan biographies, including members of Congress, elective state officers, justices of the Supreme court, members of the Michigan Legislature, Board of regents of the University of Michigan, State board of agriculture and State board of education ... Volume 2. Michigan. Historical commission. CREATED/PUBLISHED Lansing, The Michigan historical commission, 1924. SUMMARY This is the second volume of a two-volume work containing brief biographies of members of Congress from Michigan, elective state officers, Justices of the state Supreme Court, members of the legislature, members of the Board of Regents at the University of Michigan, the state Board of Education, and the state Board of Agriculture. This volume covers individuals whose names begin with the letters L-Z. The work revises and expands an earlier publication, Early History of Michigan, with Biographies of State Officers, Members of Congress, Judges and Legislators. Much of the other information here was obtained from the Michigan Manual's several editions. Each entry gives the individual's place of birth, detailed educational background (including early schooling), and a history of his career. Genealogical and personal information occasionally supplements other data. NOTES "Material is being gathered for a supplementary work."--Pref. I. A-K.--II. L-Z. A revision of S.D. Bingham's Early history of Michigan with biographies of state officers to 1888, with additions from the several editions of the Michigan Manual. SUBJECTS Michigan--Biography. 3. I have found a website that translates German, French, Italian, Spanish, and many more. All you do is put the texted in and then chose which you want way you want to translate it (For example - German to English or French to German) and then click TRANSLATE. And viola, translation of the text. It's not perfect translation, but you get the idea of what they are talking about. Here's the link http://babelfish.altavista.com/ Hope this helps! Perhaps there is a link or an email might offer a MI society. <A HREF="http://www.sacgergensoc.org/">SGGS Home Page</A> Also a univeristy language dept might be helpful.

    3. Hi I have a program that will translate German and it does do a pretty good job even with the old German, it will at least let you make out what it is talking about. You have to purchase it. But for me it was well worth the money, as I was sent a complete book from Germany and I finally got the information I needed out of it. Here is the Url. 1. [MISAGINA] New Saginaw MIGenWeb site & pages
    2. Patricia Hamp
    3. The Saginaw MIGenWeb site is being redone. There are new volunteers who have come onboard recently. The site is graphically new plus contains new files and links for people researching Saginaw ancestors. The new main page is at: http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/saginaw/ The last site is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~misagina/ and will be integrated into the new site. Cary and Lesly are working with us to get the site transferred on Rootsweb and when that is complete you will be able to go to either of the addresses to surf through the files for Saginaw. I have made sure that Carolyn's Photos for Saginaw have been included where needed so you can get to her files easily when they pertain. She has taken such a big project it can't be ignored as it is very important to researchers. The new base pages are up along with data that we have put up so far and there are new things that will be added in over time. Some of the things we hope to include are: Early yearbooks from the schools around Saginaw. If you have any that can be included please consider letting us copy by scanning or scanning the pages for the site. I hope to get some early school records for Chapin later this week, more on that if they are what I think they are. We would like to put up a searchable nane index to the wonderful images of the 1877 Plat Maps. Carolyn has part of the index scanned so we are looking for volunteers to take a page and type them up, to be put into a database on the site. Any of the censuses, vitals, tax lists, mortality schedules can be indexed and put onsite. I am hoping to work at a way that people who have a web page for their Saginaw family online can include it on the site and control it. Along with other types of submissions. The coding will take a couple of weeks for it and I will announce on the list here if alright with the list administrator. If anyone wants to help with a set of files or coordinate getting files online for a group of records, please write to saginaw@mifamilyhistory.org Patricia Wazny-Hamp MIGenWeb Sites Saginaw http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/saginaw/ Gratiot http://www.mfhn.com/gratiot Houghton http://www.mfhn.com/houghton Keweenaw http://www.mfhn.com/keweenaw hosted by: Michigan Family History Network http://www.mifamilyhistory.org --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
