Early Saginaw County Marriages Transcribed from: Records for the county of Saginaw, Michigan Territory, 1835-1864 - Saginaw County Clerk http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/saginaw/earlymarriages/ These early Saginaw County marriages were found in the first book of the county clerk which is on film. Some pages are faded and hard to read, spelling was sounded out in parts of the records and is interesting to see. The marriages in this book only go to 1847, although it is titled to include up to 1864. There are 100 records in this set of Saginaw vitals. The records include areas such as Tuscola, Bay, Gratiot, and Genesee Counties which were part of Saginaw County at the time. There are also some Oakland Co. people listed. Wondering if anything in this time frame would provide, names in a household. The 1840 census confirms my genie speculation that John ARMAN had at least one girl in the right age frame for GGGG Grandma. I have marriage and no parents listed in the 1847 occasion ( She married one of John WHITMAN's boys, Robert ), and on her death records it lists parents as unknown. She was born in New York but after two years of hunting not a clue as to possibly were. So I am quite stuck on proving who she belongs to... some have another mother and father unknown but I do feel John and Nancy ( Davis ) ARMAN are her folks, just need to get it proven some how. Any help or suggestions on what I should try is greatly appreciated. KKB
Just got done uploading a trascription of the 1840 Federal Census of Saginaw Co. http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/saginaw/census.asp Saginaw had two townships at the time. Saginaw Twp. and Tuscola Twp. It is the last Federal Census that was heads of household only with the number of males and females in each household. Tuscola Twp. later became Tuscola Co. I believe. I noted from working with Gratiot Co. for a long time that towards the end of the census on about page 5 many of the names are in that county iafter it formed. Early Bay Co. residents are also included in Saginaw at this time. Trying to work through the earliest Saginaw Co. marriages to put online right now. Will announce as soon as it gets done. I am also seeing some of the Gratiot Co. names in these. Thank you Carolyn, You are doing so many good things for us! I love the St. Cecelia's Site and like very much the idea of displaying the churches where our ancestors worshipped. This is further incentive to invest in a digital camera and a scanner. Thanks. It is located on Airport road between Holland(M-46) and Hess Road. Airport road is about 2 miles east of I-75, take a right and you should be able to find it, Hess road would be the first road south of Holland so its only a 1 mile search. Thanks, Carol, for the reminer that Memorial Day is more than a three-day weekend to drink beer and BBQ. We should also remember those veterans who lived to return home, but suffer from memories of the horror of what they endured on the battlefield. These veterans seem forgotten by the government that they faithfully served and the citizens whose freedom they fought to protect.
Thanks Pat. I'll give them a call.
