Oakwood is a city owned cemetery, Mt. Olivet is owned by the Saginaw Diocese. I would suggest Sue call the city cemetery office that is located at Forest Lawn Cemetery and ask if they can do that. They take care of all city owned cemeteries from that site. Hi Carolyn, I live near Flint and don't have a phone # for Brady. Is there a phone #? The families I need are Knippel, Palmer, or Cramer. Thanks in advance. We will be photographing Brady Hill on July 19. If you have a headstone you want to be sure to be photographed see if the office will mark the spot for that day. If no stone is present we will poke around the spot for buried headstones. Who knows what we will find for you. My brother Joe found the tombstones of my Pendell relatives under at least twelve inches of dirt and sod at Brady Hill Cemetery. They were quite well preserved. I think at one time they had been verticle. Jody Fliegel Riddick
Penny, Are you aware that a BLISS Family History has been written. It was written about 25 or 30 years ago by Ty and Jeanne BLISS of Midland. I know there is a copy in the Grace A. Dow Public Library in Midland, MI where Ty and Jeanne lived. Carolyn of Midland
We will try to get there this week if possible. Can't today. :) Looks like they are in first 2 sections going into cemetery on left. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~evansandobertein/photographs/cemete rymaps/oakwood.htm -----Original Message----- From: Penny Bliss [mailto:penbliss@chartermi.net] Sent: Friday, July 18, 2003 10:59 AM To: MISAGINA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MISAGINA] Photographing for Oakwood The majority of the Bittman burials in the Oakwood Cemetery are in Block 87, Lot 173; except for Dora and Lyman Bittman who are buried in Block 88 (North 1/2) Lot 59. I thought I would remind the persons doing Brady Hill Cemetery of the probable buried tombstones. When I was last there, a few years ago, there were many of the tombstones - the flat type - that were tipped over and the sod had partially covered them. I believe that others were totally covered. I was looking for the tombstone of Josephine Snyder (or other spelling of Schneider, etc.) I had had notes from on old relative and she described Josephine's tombstone at Brady Hill as the flat type. I believe she was an accurate genealogist and I'm sure she SAW that tombstone but I couldn't find it anywhere. Looking at all the possible sites of buried tombstones, I imagine its laying there under the sod somewhere! I suggest you bring along an ice pick and poke it here and there where you believe there might be a tombstone - and a small trowel to dig it out.
LOL....do we need a history lesson here? Aaron T. Bliss is certainly "the park one" He was governor of the state! His home is about 6 blocks from me and I live less than that from "the Park" that he donated to the city of Saginaw. By the way, did anyone know they finally put a historical marker up for it! You should see it, looks real nice. Pat pime2003 wrote: >He must be the park one, >

This is just a requested reminder by the volunteers. Photographing of Oakwood Cemetery on Gratiot Rd. from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. We will be photographing section 113. Do you know where in Oakwood? There were other Bliss names, but we didn't get them because we weren't sure what you wanted. If you know names check with Saginaw Public Library. They have a offline data base with the burial info. Same for Oakwood I think. Is Aaron a Bliss you were interested in? He must be the park one, because of the size of tomb. Might be info in history books about him if you don't have it. Hi, I am looking for Fred and Bella (Draves) LARGE. Large is the name I am looking for at Forest Lawn, not Draves. Bella's maiden name was Draves. Carolyn, What times? It would be late morning before I could get there, probably about 11:00 or so. Please send out reminders the week before. The more volunteers the less time it will take. We asked, but there was no Bittman or Draves in Forest Lawn. There is a huge moment to Aaron BLISS, and Bliss people in 2 other sections. We did not know which to look for. We took a picture of BLISS, but haven't looked at it yet. The Civil War stones are wearing out and I'd suggest that would be a good project to start with. We have looked several times before with no luck, but today realized to find the GAR section, you need to walk through another section. We were lucky and found my great grandfather, Joseph H. JOHNSON there.
We will look today and see if we can get them. -----Original Message----- From: georgia draves [mailto:robinhd@shawneelink.net] Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2003 7:40 AM To: MISAGINA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MISAGINA] Headstone Pics I am also waiting anxiously for the Forest Lawn Cemetery to be photographed; I am looking for the Fred and Bella (Draves) Large headstones. Forest Lawn and Oakwood are worth photographing just for the beauty of them. There are MANY OLD German stones. Forest Lawn has very nice helpful people working in the office. We have been very pleased when we stopped there. The stones are unbelievable if you have never seen them.
We gradually will be photographing this cemetery. It is one of the largest in Saginaw so we will be doing this section by section when we do it. Do you know the section your ancestors are in? We could start with that section first. Carolyn Penny Bliss <penbliss@chartermi.net> wrote: Is anyone going to photograph the Forest Lawn Cemetery?
