    3. There is also an FHC in Owosso for those in the "other" corner of Saginaw county from Midland. They were closed for remodeling but will be opening again in April. 1588 N Hickory, north of M-21 off North Street from M-52. There is also one in the Flint area tho I forget exactly where for those in the SE corner of Saginaw county.

Date: Sun, 18 Mar 2001 13:18:34 +0000 From: Paul Benyon <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WSX] Finding Children on IGI I haven't seen your advice, unless it was a recent article in one of the genealogy magazines, but this is my way of doing it, but it only works if you have a batch number: I haven't tried it with a film: once you've found the first child in the family that you are looking for the simplest route is to complete the: Batch Number, Last Name Father's First Name Mother's First Name Select the appropriate region And then if there are any other children from the same set parents a click on the search button should display: here's one from Bridport, Dorset to play with just to make sure you've got it right: Batch Number = C074121 Last Name = Andress (not lower case - doesn't work in upper case) Father's First Name = Samuel Mother's First Name = Ann Select the appropriate region = British Isles and you should turn up something like this: >1. Ann ANDRES - International Genealogical Index >Gender: F Christening: 5 Jun 1816 New Meeting Barrack Street-Independent, Bridport, Dorset, England > > 2. Sarah ANDRESS - International Genealogical Index >Gender: F Christening: 6 Apr 1804 New Meeting Barrack Street-Independent, Bridport, Dorset, England > > 3. Charles ANDRESS - International Genealogical Index >Gender: M Christening: 12 Mar 1806 New Meeting Barrack Street-Independent, Bridport, Dorset, England > > 4. Frederic ANDRESS - International Genealogical Index >Gender: M Christening: 24 Aug 1809 New Meeting Barrack Street-Independent, Bridport, Dorset, England > > 5. Elizabeth ANDRESS - International Genealogical Index >Gender: F Christening: 5 Aug 1812 New Meeting Barrack Street-Independent, Bridport, Dorset, England > > 6. Walter ANDRESS - International Genealogical Index >Gender: M Christening: 29 Mar 1815 New Meeting Barrack Street-Independent, Bridport, Dorset, England > However, having said all that, I've found in one or two instances, where the surname has been mis-transcribed that this form of search occasionally mis-fires ie the above name is sometimes spelt ANDREWS etc and depending on the search engine you might miss them! Once I've found a child who matches what I'm looking for, after I've completed the process above, I'll sometimes download the whole batch - as long as it isn't over 5,000 records, leaving out details of names. Cut and paste each page into a good text editor like Textpad - ideally one that runs macros: find and replace with commas all the repetitive stuff: import the result into a spread sheet or database and then play around with the result, in conjunction with the IGI search - adding more info on parents etc as necessary - usually there is no need, but sometimes it throws up connections in First Names etc which perhaps one wouldn't normally find in a standard search. You may find that the search doesn't work first time - in which case you may need to try again - I have experienced problems sometimes and have noted that others have received nil reports when in fact they know there is data there. The answer is to test you search on known info and then extend it accordingly. Hope this answers your query Regards Paul Portland

    3. There are extra ways of getting information from FamilySearch which will help. First, click on the source call number - this links to the Family History Library catalogue and in this case tells you that the record comes from Patron Submitted Sheets, not from controlled extraction. So what you are looking at is an index to entries for a particular family, probably by a member of the LDS Church who searched through the register or looked at an index. Next, try an IGI search using the batch number 8612730. If you include surname Eyre, you get a series of christenings in Great Chalfield with the same parents as Robert, including a Margaret on 24 Jan 1649 - so it is unlikely that Robert was 1 year old and available for baptism in 1649, but not baptised until 1652. To look more at what else is included in the IGI batch of christenings, just search on the batch number without a surname - you get baptisms all over the country and for different surnames, confirming that it is not a systematic extract of Great Chalfield baptisms. To check the series of baptisms you can look at the microfilm of the parish register - film no 1279348 in the Salt Lake City library, and you can obtain a copy at any Family History Centre. Great Chalfield baptisms in general are not indexed in the IGI, but they are in the British Isles Vital Records Index, and the White Horse Index. (see GENUKI Wiltshire via www.genuki.org.uk for information about these). Either of these will give an index independent of the one used by the LDS member who submitted the entries you found. Finally, you are quite right that baptisms and their recording was severely disrupted in the Commonwealth period. Great Chalfield seems to have a continuous set of registers, other parishes have gaps, so the baptism of the Robert Eyre you are interested in may be lost. Other records like wills, burials after the commonwealth period, etc can help you confirm that you have found the correct parish. I hope this helps you, and other people poking around in FamilySearch, regards, David Hawgood

Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 10:30:51 -0500 From: David Hawgood <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: [WSX] Finding Children on IGI t Joy Hungerford asked about the technique required to squeeze a list of children from FamilySearch. Paul Benyon replied with the technique using the batch number, which gets out all children if the family in the same batch - usually all the children in the same parish. There is an alternative, which gets children in several parishes. Don't put any names for the child - not even the surname. Put in the surname and forename of the father, and the forename of the mother. You can choose a country and county, and a range of years. You cannot choose exact spelling. As an example, put Michael Cass as name of father, Mary as name of mother, British Isles as region. You get 9 matches, with two parishes in Yorkshire and one in Lincoln - and it is all one family (and it's mine!). If you get too many hits it is worth adding the maiden name of the mother - but this loses a lot of genuine matches where the mother's maiden name is not in the record. For example, try children of Henry Hawgood and Maria, then try children of Henry Hawgood and Maria Pennestone - the first gives children from different families in Pembrokeshire and Rutland, the second reduces it to the family in Rutland. regards, David Hawgood

    1. Re: [MISAGINA] Saginaw
    2. Dear Theresa, We moved from Saginaw twelve years ago to the Saginaw Bay area. We live on the Kawkawlin River in a small cottage and have had row boats, canoes, floats, and sailboats. We are having so much fun living on the water. We are 14 houses off the shoreline of the Bay. (I was afraid to live on the Beach because of the ice build ups that I remembered hitting the shores as a child growing up in Saginaw. Plus, the storms and Northeast winds, "foresters" they call them here, are strong on the shoreline. It is a little more sheltered here on the river.) Saginaw City has dreams of trying to get it's little town rebuilt. They have demolished many homes in an attempt to have prospective home owners rebuild in those areas. Knowing Saginaw, I am sure that will happen. Our mansions on the East Side from the business owners of the 1940's are well kept by new owners. We are grateful for them. It shows a little of history still standing. The people are still great. They are kind and caring. I liked living in Saginaw. The suburbs have grown. From what was solid forest from Saginaw to Bay City, has become solid houses. We have lost most of our rich farmland to subdivisions. The homes are becoming larger and larger. Saginaw has a great group of people still very active in their planning. They are doing a lot of great things. The town itself is run down as the people have preferred to live in the "country" opposed to down town. So, all of the shopping centers are away from town. The life style has changed from city to country. Yet, people who love to live in the city with that kind of feel are still in the city and loving it. Jan

    2. Good Morning: I saw your recent posing on the MISAGINA-L List regarding \.How to request from the County Clerk's Office a certifed copy of a "Death Certificate". It was advised that we can send the name, date, book #, page # and the record Number along with our check for a Certified copy. I do hope that one of you can post the URL from which we can obtain the necessary dates, book # Page # etc. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this information. I was a Saginaw resident for 32 years. I still miss Michigan. Liz, Hollywood, FL

    3. I never grew up in Saginaw - I lived in Walled Lake until we took off for the WEST. I missed Michigan so much as a kid - The desert wasn't a place to raise kids - at least I didn't think so. Where could I go just to wonder away the day. Sorry cacti isn't the same! Well, I'm still here in AZ. so what does that say.. Anyway, I did make a trip again last Sept. to do some research on my Polish family who lived in the Saginaw area. I visited churches and graveyards and farms all around - everyone was so nice to me while there and I miss it still. My father built a small cottage on Wolverine Lake - that's where I grew up - so I missed the row boating and fishing and just wondering around. It's still there, the cottage and looks so cute with flowers and the trees all hugh now, my Dad planted them in the 50's. I enjoyed all your stories even though I didn't know anything about your memories. I think it's good to have these memories to place them in your ancestry booklet - I hope you are doing that for your grandchildren - our childhood innocence and the freedom we had is something they won't know. Thanks for the memories - Joanne/Arizona Tina Tirsek wrote: > On Mon, 5 Mar 2001 [email protected] wrote: > > > I am wondering why with all sharing these wonderful memories of Saginaw that > > everybody is living somewhere else. > > I lived in Saginaw for 29.5 years. 3. I'm hoping someone can assist me in trying to locate my Great Great Grandmother. Her name was ANNA JARUSZAWSKI or JAROCH she was married to IGNATZ WUJKOWSKI when she arrived here in America from POLAND. I do not know much. I believe she is buried next to him in Calvary Cemetery/Saginaw. Mt. Olivet Cemetery has nothing except a KATY WUJKOWSKI but no burial date or who she belongs to, so I'm not sure if she is ANNA or not. All I know is that in IGNATZ WUJKOWSKI's obit it tells that his wife ANNA died 30 years ago. He died in 1916 so she would have died in abt. 1886-1887. Hoyt Library has been so good about helping me (I live in Arizona). I would like a bit more information so that they could do some looking for me. Can anyone help out? The family lived in the Buena Vista-Bridgeport-Carrollton area's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
