Dear Jo: It was Lansing, Mi who wrote back to tell me the death was not recorded. Does the Hoyt Library have access to death records? Do I need to write directly to the Saginaw Courthouse to get the record? Sincerely, Bonnie
Dear Jo: Thank you for your reply. Bonnie
Yes they do. I don't have the email address for them at the Hoyt Library - they do have one and will write you back if you enclose your email address to any correspondence to them. I don't think they would appreciate someone giving it out and they are bombarded with requests. They don't publish the email address on their web site. I would copy any documents you have regarding the dates and send it off again along with your email address to the Hoyt Library. They are really great about helping out. Again, they would have a death index - but you won't receive a death certificate. You might try the Mi State again, and also enclose copies of your data. Sometimes its just who is doing the research and they don't take the time to really dig or the document has been misplaced (filed into another year) and they don't bother looking. Since you have your written data-they should recheck and charge you zip. Jo [email protected] wrote: > Dear Jo: > > It was Lansing, Mi who wrote back to tell me the death was not recorded. I wrote to the courthouse to get a copy of a death in Saginaw, Mi. The death occurred in 1904. I have a copy of the obituary, so I know when and where it occurred. I was hoping to obtain a copy of the death record to find the parent's names of the deceased. I sent $13.00 to cover the cost of the death certificate and was very disappointed when they wrote back to say that they had no death reported on the deceased and that my money was non refundable. Can someone tell me when it was required that a death be reported? Sincerely, Bonnie Researching Perry, Velie in Saginaw
Bonnie: Me again, I had this happen to me and its probably the person doing the research. Send a copy of what you received along with a copy of the obit and any other info pertaining to the death and resend it. Bet you get what you want! Bonnie: Try the Hoyt Library and see what they can do to help you. Have you seen there obit site? I've sent my check three times, its been returned three times (requested more data than what I originally gave) and now I had to send my information into Lansing, MI. I'm hoping I get what I requested. Did you check the cemetery where your relative is buried. There good about giving info as well as the funeral home. I visited the Oakland County Courthouse today to search out the naturalization papers of my g grandfather. I guess I was under the impression that I would find 'other things' along with the documents signed by my g grandfather. I had heard that it is possible to find letters, pictures, etc. I was also hoping to find when and with whom he emigrated. Acutally, I found nothing I didn't already know. What I found is basically what people told me was found in the index. There were only two documents. My question is this, Is this typical? Did they miss something, or was I expecting too much? They suggested I call the immigration office in Detroit for arrival information. Would that help if I have no idea when he came over? Can they find him just by name, or must they also have years, ship names, etc.? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated! I am stuck any help I can get. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Doug
Hello the list: I am looking to purchase an old city directory of Saginaw 1945-1950. Does anyone have one or know of location of one for sale? Thanks. Elizabeth [email protected]
IB, I believe that my g grandfather, Paul John (or John Paul) MALLETTE was born 4 April 1892 in Saginaw Michigan. I got the date from the WW1 draft registration or Idaho. I don't have a marriage date or place for him and my g grandmother Margaret BLISH. I know this is very little to go on but at the moment it is all I have. Thank you for taking the time to look into this for me. Terry
Judy, That was a "great" and truthfull letter....
Judy, Thanks for the background. I couldn't agree more. SHARE, SHARE, SHARE and your work lives on long after you are gone. Afterall, those dates etc. do not belong to us. We are merely the caretakers of all that information about our ancestors. Mary Sue
Goodness only knows I am one of the last people to want to defend familytreemaker, ancestry, etc. "the Broderbund/Mattel crowd" but there is something you must all understand: Rootsweb is now owned by this same parent company. "We" weren't generous enough in our donations to keep "free genealogy" via rootsweb afloat. Pure and simple. The "owners" of rootsweb did negotiate an agreement w/the parent company to keep rootsweb "free" access; for how long, etc. I don't know. They did their best, "we" didn't support them. Most all genealogy material is available FREE, its a matter of public record. Birth certificates, death certificates, land records, wills ..... it is only copyright-able when it is proffered in a unique format or way. We can either keep our research to ourselves, share it with no one and let it die with us or end up in the hands of someone in the family who could care less a couple of generations down from us - or we can share freely. Which includes the risk of someone else picking up the info, utilizing it and not crediting us as the source of gathering the information and perhaps profiting from our work when we don't. Each of us has to make our own decision in this regard. We have no guarantees that someone we share our info with privately might not make it available to someone who will utilize it to make a profit, we don't have any guarantees those we share our info with privately won't provide it to someone who will produce it and make it available w/o sharing those profits with us. Realistically, how many of us WILL follow thru and publish a book of our own family research? Just as with information "we" garner off the web and thru e-mail lists is subject to supposition as opposed to fact until we substantiate and document it ourselves the same holds true to the information we purchase on CDs and in books. THAT is the lesson we must ALL learn. DOCUMENT: PRIMARY DOCUMENTATION is the responsiblity of each and every one of us to determine for our own records. To do less is sloppy research and not research at all but rather supposition and should be labeled as such. Supposition until PROVED. We won't always be able to find and provide primary documentation. In such a case it is our responsibility to document the information from as many RELIABLE secondary sources as possible. Just because it is printed in a book or on a CD doesn't make it so. And lastly, I have NOT seen any PROOF that ancestry, FTM, the Broderbund/Mattell companies" smaller companies are making use of GenForum info on CDs and profiting from it. Where is the PROOF, the PRIMARY DOCUMENTATION of that? Certainly, this recent post didn't provide any. Let the buyer beware.
Terry: You state that these people were born in Saginaw. Can you send me the actual dates that you have for their births in Saginaw and also the marriage date if you have it. IB
Hello, I am trying to locate information on the families of my g grandparents Paul John MALLETTE, probably born 4 April 1892, and Margaret Rose BLISH, who was born 10 July 1895. Paul was born in Saginaw Michigan and Margaret was born in Wisconsin. They married sometime around 1911, and lived in LaClede Idaho at the time my grandmother was born in 1913. Any help in locating this family or families would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Terry
