    2. The Temple theater and the mosque next door was built by the Elf Khurafeh Temple in the 1920's and recently sold. Butterfield leased the theater for years and was recently used by the Organ Club and they would bring in movies monthly.

    2. I don't think there was a bar/resturant on that corner. Cunninghams on one corner, Heavenrich on one, Ben Franklin on one. On Baum closer to Federal was the Star lunch. On Jefferson just off Genesee was Triants.

    3. I believe the Franklin has been torn down. The Temple is still there, but struggling under various owners since the original ownership by the W.S. Butterfield chain, including a recent sale, I believe. The Temple has developed a kind of "niche" audience by showing highly-rated films that the new multiplex theatres would not. It also has shown classic silent movies accompanied by the original Barton pipe organ installed there in 1928, which is maintained by a group of theatre organ enthusiasts, and sounding quite good when I recorded it last year. The Temple also is a venue for various stage events. Let's hope that it survives. You are correct, Anderson's was the name of the place. I used to eat at Roy's at least twice a month and I did eat at that coffee shop in the Baringer Building. Everything was always good there and enjoyable. I worked in the 2nd National Bank Building at Brogger Insurance. For Lunch, I liked a small place I believe it was on Baum off Genesee almost the entire block down toward the south I believe toward Seitners. This was in the late 50's. > > Liz, Hollywood, FL

    1. [MISAGINA] Bohemian Hall
    2. Sorry I didn't really answer the question. The Bohemian Hall I believe was a meeting hall for the Bohemian Society. Another lister mentioned a pub that was connected. I seem to remember it, but don't recall going in there as I think you had to belong to go the pub. My folks bought our house from an aunt. My dad's mother was Bohemian, and I believe much of that neighborhood was Bohemian at one time. Sherry

    1. [MISAGINA] Bohemian Hall
    2. I think this made the rounds a little while ago. The Bohemian Hall was on the SW corner of 12th and Wadsworth. It burned to the ground in the 1960s. I still haven't gotten to the library to look up the actual date. I know it was before 1965 as we moved from the neighborhood then. I watched it burn. It was only a block and a half from our house. We attended many weddings there. It was quite a spectacular fire. On the SE corner was a barber shop that was later turned into a drug store by Mr. Haithcote (not sure of the spelling). On the NE corner was a store. The name of it escapes me right now. We used to catch the bus on the corner there to go downtown. The old Vescio store is still there. It is another business now. You can see it from the 675 expressway. Our home on 12th street was torn down to build I675. One of my favorite places was Pietz (again not sure of the spelling) Meat market. They always gave us a piece of bologna when my folks bought meat there. I always saved the skin to give to our dog. It was 6th and Tuscola. There was a drug store across the street and a gas station on another corner. Sherry

    2. BOHEMIAN HALL WAS ON WADSWORTH AND 11TH OR 12TH STREET. I WAS JUST A KID WHEN WE LIVED THERE. THAT WAS A WHILE AGO. IT WAS A SOCIAL CLUB MEMBERS ONLY. IT MIGHT HAVE HAD A DIFFERANT NAME AT ONE TIME FOR ALL I KNOW. MY DAD WENT THERE AND HE WAS ENGLISH. GOOD LUCK JANET

    3. Dear Pat: Thank you for the kind offer of help, but I emailed the Hoyt with a bunch of questions and requested that they be given to a professional researcher who is familiar with the Hoyt's holdings. I would rather have one of the librarians do the research, but it is not their job to do the fact-finding for my genealogical search. I wish you the best of luck in finding documents at the court house. Maria [email protected] wrote: > > Dear Maria, > We are still thinking along the same lines.
