    1. Re: [MISAGINA] O'Brien House/Hotel
    2. The name Albert Boertman is a possibility. All that is known of him is that he immigrated from Canada and worked for the "railroad" in Saginaw. He married Josephine Findley who was born October 2, 1861. The couple had three children, Minnie, Flora, and Joseph. Tom Mahar

    1. [MISAGINA] O'Brien Hotel/House POWERS/BUTLER
    2. Brenda Hill-Cogley
    3. Thanks Janet and Tim. Have Richard POWERS (b. 1844 Ireland) being the Prop. of the O'Brien Hotel from 1876 through 1880. Prior in 1874 he was living in Carrolton, Saginaw Co., MI as a laborer. He was married to Mary BUTLER September 27, 1870 in Saginaw. By 1889 Richard was living in Upson, Iron/Ashland Co., Wisconsin and as the Prop of the Pioneer House in Wisconsin. He then married in Detroit, Michigan May 1889 to a Margaret Cannan/Canaan that lists his address as Upson, Wisconsin. Mary Butler and Richard POWERS had at least 3 children: William born Oct 25, 1874, Richard born Dec. 8, 1878, and Nellie born April 19, 1881. These three children's birth record are in Saginaw Co. Do know that Nellie died in Cicero, ILL at about age 21 (never married). Think William died at young age as he was not listed in 1880 census with his parents. Don't have any idea what happened to young Richard born 1878 or his mother Mary Butler Powers. Anyone familiar with Butler families in that area? Brenda

    2. Ancestry.com has a railroad retirement board section that might help you . ST. Joes was near the C&O but i think at that time it was the Pere Marquette. My Grandad worked there in those days. Good Luck Janet

    2. Kevin, Was he bridge tender to Court Street or Bristol Street Bridge. I thought it was Bristol Street. I checked with the picnic area and they have one for 35 people and one for 120 people. How many do you think? I can hardly wait! We'll have fun with our families. Love, Jan

    2. Dear Janet, My grandfather was an engineer on the railroad. He worked for C&O. His name was Jess Moore. He worked until he was 67 and retired in 1967. I'll bet he knew your father. Lots of stories they had right? Do you remember a Walt Laughingwell? Jan

    2. Janet, I remember Wayne. When I knew him, he worked out of the Bay Rd. facility, next to Stardust Lanes. That was perhaps 1967 or so. What has become of him? And, how is it that you know him? Tim

    1. [MISAGINA] Court Street Bridge
    2. Can anyone help me with a photo of the old Court Street Bridge? Patrick Garvey was a tender in the 1930s-1940s. I believe it was referred to as a "swing" or "pivot" bridge. Patrick Garvey was also the Under-sheriff to Sheriff John Schuch in the late 1930s. 1. Re: [MISAGINA] O'Brien House/Hotel
    2. The 1877 Saginaw County Atlas shows the O'Brien Hotel located on the se corner of Potter St. and N. Washington. Directly to the east of the O'Brien is the Gilbert Hotel and behind it are large horse stables. To the west and south on that same corner is a vacant lot owned by an M. O'Brien. Other lodging in that area included the National Hotel, the Irving House. I recall reading that at one time there were many, many saloons up and down Potter St. (nice way to greet the arrivals to town). Someone can prove me in error, but I seem to recall it was over 50. By the time I worked in the area for Mi.Bell in the 60s, there were still 10 or 15, mostly run down, but still open. Tim Naples, FL

    1. Re: [MISAGINA] Schuch Hotel
    2. Kevin, Great synopsis. And, I want to hear about the card game sometime, too. I believe we traded messages a few months ago regarding possible Perkins connections, but didn't find a common denominator. You indicate that you are researching Lowe among others. I have a Katherine Kilbourn Stark marrying a Mr. Lowe, but no other real details. Mrs. Lowe died in California along with the rest of her family. I would guess that the marriage occurred sometime between 1918 and 1930, based upon her age. Does this coincide with your Lowe family? Tim Stark Naples, FL
